Just about every Saturday I find myself at the . Now that the Florida weather is becoming more and more bearable, I try to walk or take the Squeeze (it’s Lakeland so this is probably the best it’s going to get for public transportation).
Franklon Bread House is a pretty unassuming vender. No eye catching lettering, nothing really that speaks loudly as if to say please try my baked goods. In some ways, I respect this because I really don’t like to draw attention to myself.
Bottom line, these are some serious Bavarian pretzels and Polish donuts. I have been quite a few times and have enjoyed the many varieties of pretzels and especially the donuts (Pączki). Today, I had an apple pączki with vanilla custard and caramel drizzle that they put on the donut when you order it, which I thought was pretty smart given the fact that today they are at multiple event going on in the city. The dough is made with sourdough and has a good chew to it but also feels almost brioche like and I love that these donuts aren’t overly sweet. This makes for one amazing treat that doesn’t feel like it’s going to be heavy.
Definitely in the rotation. Also, I have to give a shoutout to Ethos. That’s my code of choice while at the market and I’m pretty excited about them opening up a coffeeshop soon on the south side of town.
