We had a great time hanging out with you all. Thanks for coming out and bearing through the horizontal hail. Our truck came back much lighter thanks to you all.

Couldn’t do anything of this without our friends and cousins (virtue mine honour clan Maclean!) new and old.

Sunday’s away from the Mercantile are almost always spent playing with the bees.

You may have noticed things are a little frantic in “the kitchen” as we wrap up the final honey harvesting of all our city hives. Now that that is done, it’s time to take care of those darn mite (done and done) and now, we are feeding. Remember that drought and lack of nectar all year? Yeah, we are having to feed our city hives to make sure they have enough weight going into winter.

In one more month our inspections will be done and the bees will be left to their own devices for most of the winter.

Then their keepers will shift to candle and product and holiday markets mode.

Everything is done in seasons and everything has its rhythms. Honey and heat and sweat season is nearly over. Candles, markets, holidays and repair and recover season is coming.

Ps: don’t worry about that little sugar spill. I cleaned it up. 💁🏽‍♂️

This post has nothing to do with the Mercantile.

But it kinda does. This property and this time away in the mountains, loving the slower lifestyle, slowing down, being outside has been our long long term goal. And man have we been “go go go” for so many freaking years.

Almost getting to the point of breaking down and burning out on this whole “self-employed” idea. Who are we kidding, we cry like every day and get like 2 hours of sleep and drink 6 shots of espresso every day.

But. BUT. Things are finally, beautifully coming together. And this last weekend’s little get away was magical and so affirming that hard work pays off.

Thank you Rachel Gallagher for lending us the cozy van so we could be safe and warm and to Brianna Tadlock for covering the shop so we could sneak away.

We are thick into the stick over here.
It’s the end of the year harvest (except for our farm bees who are still going strong). So it’s long days of spinning and bucketing all this years hard work from the girls.
