Tonight was sale night and even though Jeff was a major handful at times, this girl is still struggling hard.
Thank you HR Wentzel Sons, Inc for supporting her and 4-H, by buying her dairy beef steer at the auction this evening.

I know, I know, it's not one of our highlands but horned cattle aren't allowed at our county fair. So this girl poured her energy into a dairy beef steer this year.
He's a bit of a handful so she says she will be happy for him to go but I have a feeling there will still be some tears.

If you love highland cows and want to hang one on your tree, you can buy these adorable ornaments on Saturday, August 8th at the Lititz Rotary Craft Show. (8am-3pm)
James will have other wood burned ornaments and bookmarks and Chloe will have her wooden flower magnets. I will have some baby/toddler items and highland cow blankets. You can find us near Linden Hall School for Girls.
We may not have any of our real coos with us tomorrow but we'd still love to see you, so stop on by!

More photos to come but a quick snap shot of York Fair!
It was an experience for the books. I don't have plans to travel near and far for multiple shows a year but I have a feeling this won't be our last show.
Dolly took 2nd place in her heifer age category. The judge had good things to say about her including feminity, build, structure for calving ease, etc. He would have preferred her to been a little more filled out but she will get there with age.

When your daughter's 4-H project steer's name is actually Jeff . . .
Apple Hill Zooka so big and handsome, and goofy pain in the butt Jeff. They couldn't be more different.

Preparing for our 4th Annual Farm Party this past week was a lot of work but totally worth it! Yes, we had some storms but when you need the rain you don't complain. The sun came out in the late afternoon and some of our friends and family were able to take a wagon ride around the property.
Sometimes all I see is the work that needs to be done but days like this one help remind me to stop and see the beauty of what we are creating here.

When you wake up and read news articles about lab created dairy you question how we got to this point, especially when you know small dairy farmers that are barely getting by. I'm going to say it again . . . Know your farmer, know your food.
I don't know about you, but I believe that we are to be stewards of this earth and our bodies. Lab grown food, no thank you.
Support your local farmers. Talk to them. Learn their practices. We don't all farm the same. We all have our own personal beliefs. So if you know your farmer and talk to them, I promise you, you will know your food.

I asked Andrew to take a picture of me hauling water yesterday and this is what he captured.
I wasn't expecting such a beautiful picture because in that moment it certainly didn't feel beautiful. I am thankful that we have multiple springs on our property so that in cases like this when we do lose power we can still haul water for all of the animals. I'm also very thankful for the crews that worked hard on July 4th and through the night into today to get our power restored. Our original estimated restoration time was 11pm on Tuesday, so two days sooner is a huge blessing.
