Patterson Farm Preservation

Patterson Farm Preservation Citizen advocates for Pennsylvania’s oldest continuously working farm, settled in 1683. Its' documented history can be traced back to the time of William Penn.

We are the sensible, long-term stewardship solution for saving Patterson Farm and tax dollars. 501c3 not for profit organization. Patterson Farm has served the greater good since 1683 by producing crops in Pennsylvania's most fertile farm soil. Prior to written history, evidence of Native American use of the farmland exists. Patterson Farm is our heritage and future. Its preservation, and the cont

inuation of sustainable agriculture, is essential to the quality of life we enjoy here in Bucks County, PA.

In order for Patterson Farm to survive and thrive and continue to provide food for our community our local farmers need access to structures that support their work. The Patterson Farm Master Plan Implementation Committee has chosen to ignore this fact and focus on “redevelopment” to non-agricultural use despite concerns being raised. They continue to assert that farming will continue when agricultural structures are removed from agricultural use. It simply isn’t true. Farming must be given first priority in our Agricultural Security.

Activities that conflict with farming should take place elsewhere. We support our local farmers and their use of the farm structures. We hope you will too. NO redevelopment on Patterson Farm!

We support the ART of AGRICULTURE.

We presented our vision for Patterson Agriculture & Heritage Center to the Patterson Farm Master Plan Implementation Committee last night. We’re also pleased to announce the Questers have provided grant funding for materials for the repair of Satterthwaite House shutters!

Curious as to what’s in the plan? We’d love for you to see the presentation too. View it via our linktree above, or on the Lower Makefield Township YouTube channel.

A Bucks County township and a local preservation group have similar goals but are at odds over the future of what may be Pennsylvania’s oldest continuously working farm.

TONIGHT the Lower Makefield Supervisors will discuss potentially submitting the application for National Register recognition for Patterson Farm. If you’ve lived in the township for more than a few years and have followed the application process, you know it’s been decades in the making. The application was submitted many years ago, returned by the state requesting further information, shelved for many years, and has now been rewritten for submission. It is our fervent hope the Supervisors will finally allow the application to be submitted again!

Thank you to Lower Makefield Historical Commission volunteers Dr. Helen Heinz (our Patterson Farm Preservation Board member) and Joe Camaratta for your research and collaboration on the application!

Also mentioned on tonight’s agenda is a proposed carwash not far from the farm, on the former CVS site in Woodside (Edgewood Village).

Our vision for the future of Patterson Farm aligns with the sentiments expressed by our Commonwealth’s Secretary of Agriculture, Russell Redding. Support for young farmers, and investment in innovation and the infrastructure that will keep Patterson Farm viable for growing food for generations to come is paramount. One day Patterson Farm Preservation hopes to host a visit by Secretary Redding to Patterson Farm, bringing statewide recognition of the farm’s rich heritage and our community’s commitment to a sustainable future for agriculture.
