Hello Everyone! Just a little update from me 🤍

I’ve decided to change the name of this page to Country Kitchen by Andrea.

When I first started, “Suburban Homestead” felt like the right name for this page—but as this space has grown, I’ve realized I want something a little more personal… something that truly reflects my heart and what I love sharing with you.

This new name also carries a bit of nostalgia for me. Years ago, I had a business called Country Herbals by Andrea, where I made all-natural bath and body products, homemade soaps, and herbal remedies. It was such a special part of my life for over 16 years, and bringing that name back in a new way just feels right.

Nothing about what I share here will change—this space is still all about simple, from-scratch food, cozy kitchen moments, and getting back to the basics. If anything, this name feels even more like home.

I also realized that “homestead” is a widely used term, and I wanted to create something that feels a little more unique while still honoring the same lifestyle and values.

Thank you for being here and for supporting this space. It truly means so much 💛

The other day, I baked a croissant sourdough loaf, and I wanted to share my thoughts. While the flavor was excellent, I wasn’t as impressed with the texture of the bread itself. When I sliced it, each piece tended to fall apart where the butter layers were, as the fat acts like a lubricant and likely prevented the layers from fully bonding.

That’s really part of why we love croissants, though. I’ll definitely try this again, but next time I’ll bake it as a sweet loaf where it doesn’t matter if each slice holds together, since I’m not planning to use it for sandwiches. I just wanted to share my honest feedback, and I really would love to know your thoughts.

Have you made a croissant sourdough loaf before, and what’s your take on it? Did you run into the same issue, or did your croissant sourdough loaf turn out just fine?

Jägerschnitzel (Hunter’s Schnitzel)

Schnitzel is one of those classic dishes you’ll find in almost every German kitchen or restaurant.

For the most authentic cut of meat in the U.S., I recommend using boneless sirloin chops—most butchers will gladly prepare these for you.

The preparation itself is quite simple. In Germany, schnitzel is most commonly made with pork, while in Austria, the traditional Wiener Schnitzel is made with veal. Chicken breast can also be used, but for this recipe, we’ll be using sirloin chops.

I’m genuinely curious… why load a beautiful ham up with all these undesirable ingredients when simple tastes so much better?

Do you have an easy go-to ham glaze you love? I’d be excited to see it! If not, I shared a simple recipe in the comments for you.
