Recently tried a relatively new local Thai restaurant called Amata Thai, which bills itself as “modern” Thai. While they have an expansive menu with some unique dishes, many of which excel in presentation, there were some miscues in ex*****on.
The 8-hour braised short rib in the khao soi noodle soup was a bit chewy and tough in texture. The table side flambé of the dinosaur sized bone marrow was visually impressive, but it felt lost in the dish. I was yearning for some toast to spread that luscious bone marrow.
The prawn rolls were certainly fun to eat, albeit messy. But the prawn and its delicate flavor was lost in the maze of crispy noodles. The black pepper beef tenderloin was solid.
Perhaps my favorite bite (or two or three) of the night came from dessert. The mango sticky rice is ubiquitous at most Thai restaurants, but Amata’s version really excels in their sticky rice, which balances just the right amount of sweetness with perfectly ripe mango.
