As kidding season approaches, if you’re a buyer or future buyer, maybe take a moment to read this.
As many of you know, especially my friends and family, I work some crazy hours. I rotate between 8am-4pm, to 4pm-12am, to 12am-8am every week. And on every weekend I work (at least 2x a month), change it to a 12 hour long shift. At any given time, change an 8 hour shift to a 12 hour because we had a call off or vacation day.
In just this past work week, I will have worked 80 hours. Thats twice the amount of hours most individuals work. Now add milking twice a day to that schedule, bottle feeding babies, being present for births, show season, time for any vet trips, emergencies, feed trips, vehicle and trailer maintenance, everything!!
So, as kidding season approaches in a few months for myself (and right around the corner for friends in other regions!), take my schedule, or anyone else you’re purchasing from, into consideration. If you’re planning to pick up an animal, BE THERE ON TIME. Not 3 hours late and especially not “Can we move pick-up to next weekend” late. Not everyone is consistently home, or even off every single weekend for pick-up availability! Even just being late 2 hours for my farm can mean I don’t get enough sleep prior to my work day/night, or I could miss out on doing something I needed that time for.
Moral of my story.. be on time🙂 Whoever you’re purchasing from will thank you & appreciate it. Even if it’s silent.
Disclaimer: Accidents/Emergencies happen. We all understand if something horrific happened and schedules need moved. Just don’t be late intentionally! And no, this is not a targeted post, it’s just a PSA 😉
