☀️ Good Morning North Georgia Show Pig families! Now that many of you have loaded your barns with your summer/fall show 🐷 pig projects…..We are thrilled to announce that we just got a fresh shipment of a limited supply of Critter Hill Goat Milk lotion spray, shampoo & the ALL NEW Conditioner in here @ Keese Farms ! We were lucky enough to get to try out the new conditioner before it hit the market & this stuff is the 💣 🔥, leaving their skin so soft & hydrated in just the 1st use alone( 👀 before/after’s in the comments)! Give us a shout if you’d like to swap out empty bottles from last seasons lotion spray OR to grab the whole trio of shampoo, conditioner & conditioning spray! This trio will have your skin & hair on point when you hit the ring for those first shows of the season! 😎

We are EXPECTING🐷🐷🐷!!
We have a little saying around the farm, “we don’t count our babies until they are born & 6 weeks old” because any breeder big or small will tell you so much can happen from the time sows are bred through sale day, but if all goes well we are “anticipating” 3 litter’s for the winter show season here @ Keese Farms ….so stay tuned! ❤️

Feedback is a critical component of keeping your project on track—and the high-quality cameras we have on our phones create a tremendous opportunity for sharing your project’s progress.

But one of the biggest separators between those who improve…
…and those who become frustrated with poor feedback…

is the quality of information they provide when asking for help.

If you want meaningful feedback on a pig—
whether from a breeder, fitter, feeder, veterinarian, older sibling, or mentor—
it is critical to present the whole picture.

Because evaluation without context requires guessing.
And a guess is not good enough.

🎥 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗢 𝗦𝗘𝗧𝗨𝗣
• Wash the pig
• Feed it like you would before sending it into the ring
• Person filming should stay stationary
• Showman should drive the pig TO the camera
Send:
• 15 sec side view
• 15 sec front view
• 15 sec rear view

🚫 UNHELPFUL VIDEO:
• Empty pigs with their head down
• Running pigs
• Panting hot pigs
• Pigs actively fighting the whip

Clip videos down to the most representative looks.

🧾 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗗𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

• Weight 1–2 weeks ago
• Average daily gain since last check in
• Current ration
• Indicate whether feed amounts are daily totals or per feeding
• Exact feed amount by weight (buy a kitchen scale)
• Supplements / electrolytes / feed options at your disposal
• Upcoming show date
• Goals over the next 1–3 weeks

🍽️ 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗘
This is one of the most important pieces of context there is.
A skinny pig aggressively hunting feed is a completely different situation than a skinny pig refusing to clean up.
Those pigs do not get managed the same way.
And they should not receive the same advice.

🧠 𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧:
Tell your mentor what YOU think needs to change.

Do they need more shape?
Move more comfortably?
Too skinny?
More growth?
More rib and body?

Learning to evaluate your own livestock is part of becoming a better stockman.

Showing pigs takes a village—but the quality of communication will often dictate the quality of help you receive when there are limitations to boots-on-the-ground assistance.

Ask the questions that can get the answers that make a difference.
Context keeps hammers out the ditches. 🔨

Couldn’t have said it better….Happy Mother’s Day to all you Show Momma’s out there!

She’s up before daylight, coffee in hand,
Chores to get to and meals to plan.
With a pig whip in one hand, a baby or a brush in the other,
There’s nothing like the strength of a show pig mother.

She knows every ration, each tweak to the feed,
And still manages to decipher her family's every need.
Day in and day out she's there for the barn prep,
Meanwhile ensures every other task in life doesn't miss a step.

Win or lose when her children step from the gate,
She’s right there beside them, steady and straight.
With pride in her smile and dust on her sleeve,
She teaches them more than they’ll ever believe.

A keeper of chaos, a supporter of dreams,
Holding the family together at the seam.
So here’s to the women who give every day,
In the home, the barns and the rings, in their own gritty way.
