Happy microgreen seeding day here at the farm finally!

We have been busy getting our newly 20’ by 30’ garden plot put in. It has been taking up a lot of our time away from these precious little plants, but we are so happy to back at it.

What’s your favorite transplanting tool?

I love chopsticks, they help in numerous ways. From making the hole in the soil, separating the leaves for removing and translating your seedlings. Makes moving them around a gentle and smooth process. If you haven’t tried them before, you might want to give them a go.

It’s time to take your health seriously and take action! New to gardening and unsure if it’s for you? Here’s a simple and cost effective method to start your mini garden.

Grab three 5 gallon food grade buckets, a bag of 2 cubic feet of organic potting soil of choice. This one bag should be enough to fill all three containers. Flip the buckets over and put a few drain holes in the bottom of each bucket and fill them with soil.

Not sure what to plant or how to grow them? Look for seed packets that have a container pot 🪴listed on them or grab seedlings from your local nursery that are container plants. Follow the instructions on the backside of the package for seed starting.

In one 5 gallon bucket you can grow 1 tomato, 1 pepper, 1 zucchini, 1 cucumber or 1 eggplant.

With the remaining two buckets choose from these veggies: 3-4 lettuce, 12-15 carrots or beets, 6 bulbs of onions, 4 chive plants, 3-4 spinach or 4 bush beans per 5 gallon bucket.

Container plants are pretty much self sufficient, they just need some water and a little conversation. That’s right, it’s ok to speak with your plants, it’s a free therapy session and it encourages their growth. You won’t look crazy, your neighbors might get inspired.
