Levels of groundwater contaminants in certain areas around the old American Thermostat Co. site in South Cairo have not decreased significantly after more than 25 years of extraction and treatment, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Wednesday. As a result, the agency believes there may be contamination remaining on-site and is opening a new investigation.
