Last night was cold enough to freeze your eyelashes… and this doe decided it was the perfect time to kid 😅❄️
She delivered a gorgeous set of triplets with no problems and despite the below freezing temps, mama and babies are doing great. Preparedness + grit = farm miracles!

COLD 🥶 nights like last night and the ones yet to come this week are exactly why preparedness matters with livestock. This little doe kid made her arrival just around midnight last night. It was a little hairy for a minute but so proud of this new mama and grateful everything worked out the way it did. Farming isn’t for the faint of heart, but moments like this make it worth it!
It was a long night that still hasn't ended but mom and baby, AKA "Cookie" per my son, are doing well so far! 💕🐐💝

Sorry, I've been a little quiet lately... Kidding season has us fully immersed in the barn life, long days and even longer nights!
The bright side?? We have new goat babies on the ground! 🐐💕 Gorgeous dapple girls! I'll be sharing more as things...slow down? ( not likely), but stay tuned nonetheless 😉

🐐FARM UPDATE:
Its been a minute since we have shared a farm post! Things have been a bit wild around here! We're almost in full swing for kidding season with our ladies and the barn is buzzing with excitement ( and a little chaos)😁🤣
Most of the crew is doing great and keeping us busy around the clock, but we do have one down for the count. She is getting some extra TLC and care. We are hopeful for a smooth delivery and recovery for her and a strong season ahead. 💪

Stay tuned - there is going to be a lot of baby goat cuteness coming soon! 😍

One of the best parts of our farm is how involved and dedicated our kids are to it....Its a family affair for sure, but they work hard not just for their projects but they go hard for all of our stock, all year long!
One of our favorite weeks of the year is the county fair! They take some of their breeding stock and then their own home grown market projects. I am so proud of their hard work, dedication, talent and drive...
The trophies, ribbons and banners are nice, but what's even better is watching them grow and develop into amazing herdsmen and showmen and how they help others along the way!

They collectively brought home 3rd and 4th in the county born and bred with their market projects, several 1st and 2nds in breeding stock and then Steven drove it home with his Grand champion fullblood doe!
Proud of our stock and proud of our kids!! Always room to improve but grateful for where we have gotten. Hard work pays off!

HOW MUCH FOR A GOAT?

Let me say a few words to you, yes you, the person who sends a text to just ask for the price. The person who calls and hears the price and says “I can buy a cheaper goat somewhere else”. I'll talk to you too; the person who doesn't care about papers because I want “just a pet and milk goat to raise”.

No registered goat is “just a pet and milk goat”.

Behind every purebred goat is a BREEDER. I use capital letters to distinguish a breeder from an animal factory for lack of a better word. A serious breeder does not breed goats without documents that protect the integrity of the breed.

Registration papers are records of ancestry documenting the bloodline and enabling you to investigate possible health problems in your lineage.

When you tell a breeder you don't care about the papers, just tell them you don't care about the goats’s health, you just want the cheapest thing you can find!

If you choose to buy a goat from a reputable and quality breeder, this breeder is responsible for every goat’s health.

This breeder will skip vacations, miss sleep, and most of their personal time is dedicated to their goats and their well being. The truly passionate breeder, who loves what they breed, puts all of their time into it. Not only for goats that are sold, but also for every customer who owns a piece of their heart and is now a member of their large family.

A breeder will get his hands dirty, often covered in everything that comes with birth. Because that's what life is all about... in the midst of birth and death is life. The wheel that keeps spinning. A breeder conducts ultrasounds, analytics, emergency vet calls, vaccinations, registrations, researches pedigrees, deworming, hoof trims and provides the base start for the future of the goat in handling, milking and showing.

Last but not least, a breeder CHOOSES the family who is lucky enough to have one of their goats. Yes, you read correctly.

A real breeder chooses who they sell to.
There really is no compensation that can offset the investment a breeder has made.
A good breeder has other criteria for those who want to continue their bloodline, why? Because breeding isn't a responsibility to take lightly, it's a lifestyle choice reserved ONLY for the few devoted people willing to sacrifice.

Since a goat is never “just a pet” he/she is the legacy of the breeder, a little boy’s best friend, a caretaker of a little girl, therapy for the elderly, a member of the family, someone's whole world!

Worth sharing with so much truth in this article. Responsible breeding and possession of many goats is a lifestyle and commitment many cannot understand.
