Today is World Primate Day! 🐒🌏
Over 200 species belong to the primate family including monkeys (like our Squirrel monkeys), apes (like our white-handed gibbons) and prosimians (like our ringtailed lemurs).
Primates serve an important role in maintaining healthy forests and ecosystems, which is one of many reasons why protecting them is so important!

Jade & Jethro go to Florida during the winter months for the warmer weather, but couldn’t travel back this past spring with Covid restrictions. We’re happy to finally have them back at the park 🥰

Who loves snack time as much as our gibbons?!
In the dog days of summer, it’s important that our animals have plenty of ways to cool off... like with fruity popsicles 🍭 canopies ⛺️⛱ frozen water bottles 🧊 and good old fashioned tree coverage 🌳
How are you beating the heat this summer?

Who’s had a chance to meet Bonnie & Clyde our African crowned cranes since they joined us this June?
Have you seen them dance? 💃
All cranes, young and old alike, participate in elaborate, enthusiastic "dancing," often just for the fun of it! For the young, dancing helps to develop physical and social skills. It serves as a courtship ritual for the single adults and gets established pairs ready to breed, too. In a flock of cranes, once a dance starts, it can quickly become contagious, with all the cranes joining in!
“Hello sir, what do ya got in that cup there?” 😋🐐
Our squirrel monkeys love some basil scent enrichment! 🐒🌿👃
Who else loves the smell of fresh basil? 🙋
Rebel had a fun day socializing with Kit & Kat our Nilgai 👋

First we would like thank all of our visitors who have followed Leesburg Animal Park’s safety protocols during Phase 2 and Phase 3 of our reopening. We truly appreciate your cooperation as we navigate through these times!
That being said, it is important to us that we continue to listen to guidelines provided by the CDC and our local and state governments regarding use of masks, so we can continue be a fun and safe environment for all.
As of August 7, The CDC recommends all people 2 years of age or older wear a mask in public settings (indoor or outdoor) so we will now require all guest ages 2+ to wear a mask at the park. We believe that if you are unable to comply, you should not visit Leesburg Animal Park for your own safety and for the safety of others.
Thank you for understanding. Let’s all do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Whenever the pond floods we take a boat out to Lemur Island to care for our ring-tailed lemurs. Here are some pics from Allyson & Miranda’s adventure this morning 🛶🏝
Happy #InternationalCatDay! 🐱🐆
Servals are medium-sized wild cats with tawny, black-spotted coats and long necks and long legs that allow them to see over savanna grasses. They also have large ears and an acute sense of hearing👂
We care for two beautiful servals at the park, know their names?
Who will catch the biggest fish at this weekend’s Fishing Derby? 🎣
Join us Saturday & Sunday out on the pond!

Happy International #OwlAwarenessDay! 🦉
Meet Hoolio, our Eastern Screech-Owl! We have been caring for Hoolio at Leesburg Animal Park as he is unreleasable due to a missing eye and other former injuries. You can find him in our Critter Corner, that is if you can spot him 🔎 Eastern Screech-Owls are masters of disguise!
