4 years ago, I was out of town and got a message from the pet sitter that something had killed 4 out of the 5 of my chickens, leaving only the mean one behind. When I got home and checked the cameras, I found this coyote was the culprit. My yard was completely fenced in with a 6’ fence in the back and 4’ fence in the front. The door to the run was in need of repair and difficult to close, so I told the pet sitter not to worry about closing it, because it had been fine for the months prior that I had been doing it.

We had never had an issue with coyotes before, or after this, in the 10 years we lived in that house. But the craziest things always seem to happen if I go out of town, which is another reason why it’s so hard to do!

Lexi came back from her journey with a souvenir. I have no idea what it came from, but it sure is stinky 🥴

We completely forgot about Callie’s birthday yesterday! She turned 4, and she’s just as crazy as ever! She is the sweetest, cuddliest, and naughtiest dog. She sure was cute on the day we brought her home! Happy belated birthday to my sweet Do-do dog. 🎂 🥳 🦴

It’s been too hot to do much outside the last few days, so enjoy this video of Stormie playing with his new toy!

I never know where I’m going to find eggs. Most of the chickens lay in the nesting boxes, but some of them are more adventurous.

Don’t mind her yelling at me at the beginning. She does not like to be disturbed while laying in illegal spots.

The strangest place I’ve ever found a nest of eggs? On the roof of the chicken coop 🤪

Emmett requested b**r can chicken for dinner last night. Technically, it was a Spindrift can chicken 😂

I season mine with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, mushroom powder, and paprika. I will either use b**r in the can, or put vegetable broth in, and whatever herbs I have on hand to help flavor the inside.

I cook it in the oven at 375* for an hour or so, depending on the size. I turn the oven up to 400* for the last 10 minutes to crisp up the skin. The skin is my favorite part!

Have you tried b**r can chicken? How do you make yours?

We’ve had two months of mom’s meetups that I have neglected to post about. In July we made a bunch of different tinctures. We all chose different ones to make, depending on our needs. The tinctures had to sit for 6 weeks, so we got together the other day to strain, and bottle them.

For August we learned all about the benefits of colloidal silver, and how to make your own. We also had a delicious, and beautiful, charcuterie spread. Colloidal silver is something that I use regularly, but still learned even more about it!

The second handiest thing to have around the farm after zip ties? Cattle panel.

It seems that the dogs had been helping themselves to the duck eggs 😬, so now there are significantly less. Today, I put this cattle panel around the area of her nest to keep the dogs out, but she’ll still be able to fit through to go eat and drink.

Also, this is a cat house I built when my trio was supposed to be strictly outdoor cats. It did not get much use once they learned how to come in through the dog door, and ended up being indoor/outdoor cats 🤪

Good Sunday morning from Stormie!

I’ve gotta give a shout out to Mamber Ranch for sharing the idea to get a collar with a bell for him! He is so much easier to find around the house now. I think the green was a good choice- it really brings out the color of his eyes!

Minnie has zero cares in the world this morning! She is living life, hanging out on the swing, and chewing her cud. I hope your day is as carefree as hers!
