Let’s meet another staff member! Allow me to introduce you to Betty!

-What is your job title and what aspect of your role do you most enjoy?
Office Manager and Lesson Instructor. While my gifts in the office are in organization and keeping track of things, my heart is for the outdoors and working with children and their families. Thus, when I am able to interact in a mentorship roll as lesson instructor and family support team member, I am filled with joy!

-How long have you been at Green Meadow Farm? And how did you hear about the farm?
I had heard about Green Meadow Farm from a couple different people in passing and one day in the Fall of 2013, when I was out and about with a friend, on a whim we decided to stop by and check it out. I liked what I saw and, as I spoke with Beckie, I felt the heart beat of the farm. I was invited to be a part of the team and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!

-What is your favorite book?
The Bible – under one cover you can read books relating to history, war, tragedy, family, mysteries, finding love, and hope!

-Hobbies?
Love vacations in the mountains, animals – horses in particular, the outdoors, painting/drawing, reading, having coffee with friends.

-What is one thing that you have never done, but you’d love to try?
Visiting the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, Mather Point, the Skywalk, etc, and also ride down into the canyon on horseback.

Thank you Betty for all that you do here! We appreciate you!

Our Volunteer of the Month for May is Eleana Eckley!

Being Eleana’s supervisor while she interned here at Green Meadow Farm has been an absolute joy. She jumped in to doing chores and lessons right away and excelled. I have been so thankful for her determination, willing spirit, thoughtfulness and care with the students and horses. Congratulations on your college graduation, Eleana! May the Lord bless you in all that is to come! - Keri

Eleana is a joy to work with! She is fun, compassionate and not afraid to push into the work of relationships. She has been a blessing here on the farm and I have no doubt that God has plenty of ministry work in store for her. - Bree

Thank you, Eleana, for the time and effort you spent here at Green Meadow Farm!

Green Meadow Farm Spotlight!

Sammy is today's featured farm animal! He is such a character! Even though he's the smallest "horse" on the property, he has a big personality! He absolutely loves helping in lessons and is a particular favorite among many of our smaller students. Sammy is a Hackney/Shetland Pony mix and is 12.2 hh which is about 4 feet tall at the withers! He was donated to us in 2018. Sammy doesn't really have a favorite treat because he just loves food: from apples and carrots to peppermints and bananas! We love this sweet boy!

At Green Meadow Farm, we try very hard to live out and show Jesus’ love to each and every one of our students and their families. We know that not every person who comes to the farm has a good relationship, or may not have a relationship at all, with our Heavenly Father. That is most certainly not a requirement for being part of our program.

During my very first lesson with a brand new student, we were getting to know Aspen. We were working our way through the grooming bucket, getting acquainted with the various brushes and how each one is used. My student was carefully and gently smoothing out Aspen’s hair, still thick with his winter layer, when she looked up at me with big eyes and quietly asked, “Can I tell you something about myself?”

Introducing, Gemesen!

- What is your job title and what aspect of your role do you most enjoy?
Volunteer coordinator/horse health.
I enjoy meeting and orienting new volunteers to the horses and farm. From there it is great getting to know them and helping them to grow in their horsemanship while working together. I love giving lessons, and find it especially rewarding when my past lesson students are old enough and choose to come back and volunteer. It is wonderful to continue to build into their lives.

- How long have you been at Green Meadow Farm?
Since the beginning

- How did you hear about Green Meadow Farm?
A friend at church knew that I had a passion for kids, horses, and Jesus and that John and Beckie were wanting to start a program focused on helping kids and using horses.

-What is your favorite book?
Pride and Prejudice

-What's one thing you’ve never done, but love to try?
Skydiving

Thanks Gemesen for the blessing you are to Green Meadow Farm!!

Anna Martin is April's Volunteer of the Month!

Anna is an incredible young woman! She is such a joy to work with at the farm. She knows our Lord and is a faithful follower. It’s hard to believe we can have so much fun mucking lots but we do. Congratulations, Anna! - Kathie

As we volunteered together I learned that Anna has a twin brother and served with YWAM until she met with some health challenges. She found us during this time as she was in need of time with animals, especially horses. It was evident that Anna loves building genuine friendships, as she and I connected quickly during our chore time. She loves working with children and so was drawn to our mission at the farm. - Gemesen

Although I have only met Anna a few times, her heart for the animals and for our mission here comes through loud and clear. She has come during all sorts of weather from fall through the winter and now into the muddy parts of spring. We are so grateful for her gentle, cheerful spirit. - Beckie

Thank you, Anna!!

Green Meadow Farm Spotlight!!

Aspen is todays featured farm animal! Aspen is incredibly friendly and loves giving lessons! He is the only 'white' horse on the farm and is very rarely actually white because he loves to roll in the dirt! When his summer coat comes in, you can see why his color is considered a 'flea-bitten' grey. Some of his favorite things are good head scratches and bananas. This sweet boy is the oldest resident at the farm at almost 30 years old! He loves making new friends and is great with people!

It's time to introduce another staff member! Everyone, meet Bree!

- What is your job title and what aspect of your role do you most enjoy?
My job title is 'Horse Training Coordinator'. What I love about my role is the relationships that I get to build, both with the horses at the farm and with the volunteers & instructors who work with them.

- How long have you been at Green Meadow Farm?
I joined the farm in 2019.

- How did you hear about Green Meadow Farm?
I got in touch with Green Meadow Farm through a similar ministry. I was the equine supervisor at Meadows of Hope for several years and met the team from GMF through events with similar ministries.

- What is your favorite book?
I have way too many favorites to choose just one. One book that I pick up pretty often is "Countryman" by Hal Borland. It's a month to month journal/reflection of his experience of country life.

- Hobbies?
Not sure if this counts as a 'hobby', but I am currently training for a full marathon. So I run. A lot.

- What's one thing you’ve never done, but love to try?
I have done several wilderness hiking & canoe trips but those were 1-2 weeks. I would love to do a 30+ day trip someday.

Thanks Bree! We so appreciate all the time and energy you put into your students and the farm!

Our Volunteer of the Month for March is Janae Harnish!

From three of her co-workers:
Janae is a very sweet volunteer who always has a smile. She is genuine, friendly and a caring young lady. She is always willing to step in and help with anything that needs to be done. She is very conscientious and detailed in her work and has a go-get-er attitude with everything she does.
Janae is a wonderful volunteer who loves each of the animals, especially Ruby. She is a lot of fun to work with and seems to enjoy being at Green Meadow Farm. She is speedy in her tasks and her co-volunteers really enjoy working with her.
Janae has been volunteering with us for quite some time. She’s so caring and empathetic towards those around her. She strives hard to do well in all that she does. You can depend on her to complete what she started and she does it with joy. It is a pleasure to know her and work with her!
Thank you, Janae!

Howdy Folks!
We have a fun opportunity for you to be able to partner with Green Meadow Farm! We have 5 amazing horses that could be YOUR specially sponsored horse for the year. Although the cost for each horse is kind of steep, here is an example of how it could break down for your group: If you gather 10 folks together it would average out to be around $20 a month per person to cover the yearly cost of one of our equine partners. We are hoping to have them all paired up by the end of March! Can you help us make this happen?
GREAT ways to learn more about this wonderful opportunity:
1. Bring your group to the farm for a visit and short tour.
2. We can come to your group and share our mission and stories of each horse.

See photo for more details!

Green Meadow Farm spotlight!

Wynder is this featured farm animal! Oh Wynder, where do we start? Wynder is a Morgan/Friesian mix and is such a good boy. 🙂 We are starting with him because he was the first of the Green Meadow herd to arrive. Wynder is amazing at connecting with people and building relationships. He may appear slightly intimidating at first, but he is fabulous with students.

Can you guess Wynder's favorite treat? Put your guess in the comments and we'll publish the answers there in a couple days!
A - peppermint
B - apple
C - banana
D - carrot

We thought it’s about time we do some introductions around here! So, over the next little while, in no particular order, we will be helping you get to know some of our staff and instructors though fun get-to-know-you questions!

With that said, meet Keri!

What is your job title and what aspect of your role do you most enjoy?
I am the Lesson and Instructor Support Coordinator. There are many things I love about my job! It’s hard to narrow it down to one “most” thing. But I really enjoy collaborating with our instructors to work through lesson ideas and praying for them as they give so much love and care to their students.

How long have you been at Green Meadow Farm?
I have been here since the very beginning - before we even welcomed our first horse, Wynder. So, that’s been 10 years. Time flies when you’re having fun!

How did you hear about Green Meadow Farm?
Beckie invited me over for lunch one day to tell me about this horse idea she had. I was hooked from that very moment.

What is your favorite book?
Unfortunately, I have not really had the opportunity to read very much for fun in years and years. When I was a teenager, my favorite books were Nancy Drew Mysteries. I read every single one. In more recent years, my kids and I read all the Elephant and Piggie book over and over…they still make me laugh.

Hobbies?
I love to cook and bake - I make a really great apple pie. I also enjoy vegetable gardening, hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding.

What’s one thing you’ve never done, but would love to try?
I would love to travel to Europe, specifically Italy.

We are so thankful for all you do, Keri!!

General information

Our horses at Green Meadow Farm are at the very core of how we choose to connect with the children and families who visit. These horses have been carefully chosen for their role here because we believe they have the temperament to foster personal growth and to nurture the children and families with whom they interact. We want to take good care of them and provide for their needs so that they in turn are able to give back to our students.

Today seems like a Creole BBQ Shrimp & Grits kinda day? Imagine jumbo shrimp marinated and seared with house smoked ham topped with a Creole sauce that’s mounted with a scallion compound butter. Served over cheesy Green Meadow Farm heirloom grits, and garnished with grilled scallions... We are now serving from noon until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 1-8pm the rest of the week. Only at REX 1516.
Let's make a mid-week stopover in Leona, Pennsylvania, to visit Wynder at Green Meadow Farm! We're pretty sure that Wynder, a 21-year-old Morgan-Friesian cross, is the first horse we've featured who is the hero of a children's book! Back in 2016, the folks at Green Meadow successfully funded a crowdfunding project to publish an illustrated book called "Wynder: A Tale of Restored Joy." Wynder was the first horse at Green Meadow Farm, an equine non-profit focused on helping children overcome trauma and other emotional issues. Opening in 2012, they offer their programs to kids free of charge through the support of donations. We were happy to be able to contribute in our small way by donating a GreenGuard Grazing Muzzle to help keep Wynder healthy as he works to help kids. Learn how you can contribute to their good work by visiting their website: https://buff.ly/2G1ftPn
