Our 90-day game of hide and seek began this evening. To start it off we are 3 for 3 on bull calves. The highlight of the day was this Kingpin son out of a War Paint first calf heifer we purchased from Gibbs this past year. Our intent on buying these females was to invest in cow families that had increased longevity, were moderate in mature size while still having depth and capacity, efficient and easy fleshing, and added milk production. I think this girl is the epitome of all of these traits!

Cows that raise good bulls make bulls that produce good cows!

I walked through the cows last night collecting BCS prior to us weaning calves off this morning. This particular pair caught my eye and I snapped a picture. This morning, as I rode in, a set of our coming two-year old bulls stood posed and I snapped another picture. After working calves and looking over weights I noticed the dams of this years’ top two calves have also produced our high-selling bull last year, a bull we retained to use on heifers, and what we think will be two highlights this fall at the BCIA Sale in Uniontown .

By putting an emphasis on the females in our herd we are producing heifers and bulls alike who are productive yet functional; adding profitability to your operation.

We were blessed with the opportunity to be part of the acquisition of TJ CHOSEN ONE 503M.

Sired by the rising genetic powerhouse, HA Justice 30J, 503M was our choice of the high selling flush at Triangle J’s 2025 sale.

His dam 44K, a beautifully made TJ Gold daughter, is an up and coming superstar in Triangle J’s donor pen.

We believe CHOSEN ONE will offer improvement in every measurable aspect. Combining the genetic prepotency of his sire with the uncanny consistency of his maternal grandsire.

Back at the end of September we top dressed winter grazing over some of our dormant Bahia/Dallisgrass pastures.

By October 7th we had germination. After that the rest was history.

The cattle have been grazing the cool season grasses now for several weeks. They are gaining weight and increasing condition daily. The clover seems to have come on really strong this year.

About another month and we will move the mamas to summer pasture and wean this set of calves. We will send the calves through another rotation over these winter grazing pastures before transitioning them to feed to start developing.

I may be biased, but there is no better sight than black cattle on green grass.

Another long yearling bull gone to work for a local customer!

4CF Miss Layla J006 x Gibbs 1091J Guardian

We purchased a Guardian son from our friends over at Gibbs Farms a few years back that was rated G+ using Allied Genetic Resources RightChoice system. We chose this bull to help us create females that move our herd forward while still producing marketable bulls. 1091J’s first heifers will get bred next month and look for his first sons to sell next fall!
