That is a wrap for the Asotin County Fair. They really did impress me today. Our fair is not an ARBA-sanctioned show so our awards are a little different. Here is the rundown. The Top Of Class awards are equivalent to an ARBA BOB. The Sweepstakes award is equivilent to a Reserve In Show!

Caty Creek's Gimic - Jr. Himi Rex Buck - BOB, RIS
Conrad's Mara - Sr. Black Silver Marten Doe - BOB
Moon Phase's Pookie - Sr. American Sable Doe - BOB
Caty Creek's Spartan - Sr. American Chinchilla Buck - BOB
Leblanc's JMP1 (Kapoon) - Sr. Golden Palomino Buck - BOB
P3's Dubwool - Sr. American Chinchilla Doe - Best Overall Open Breeding Project

Let’s talk tattoos. I have been asked by more than a handful of people how I get my tattoos so neat so I thought I would make a quick post about it.

The first tattoo pictured is one I did about a year ago. And the two other pictures were done yesterday.

There really is no shortcut to getting good at tattoos. You just have to practice, and practice again, and practice some more. I have tattooed hundred of rabbits and gotten lots of experience with it. The quickest way to get good at tattooing is to practice on culls. Particularly the ones you are going to process. You can tattoo them twice, for double the exercise. Don’t forget to be patient it took me about a year and a half to have what I would call decent tattoos.

We take rabbits to the fair tomorrow, so here is a litter update while I have a chance.

Ursa Major's It Goes Around A.K.A. Orbit had her litter of 9 beautiful babies on the 19th. These babies are out of Cooper Creek's Tracker, so I have hopes there will be at least one chinchilla in there. Interestingly, there is a white baby in her box. There is a chance it is a himi or a REW, but we will have to wait and see.

Ursa Major's In Motion A.K.A Inertia - Her litter is now four weeks old and I did four week weight checks and here is how they did.

Chinchilla Doe - 10.1 oz
Chinchilla Buck - 9.7 oz
Lynx? - 10.8 oz
Opal? - 7.4 oz
Broken (Castor) - 8.3 oz
Broken (Chocolate) - 12 oz
Broken (Lynx?) - 10.9 oz
Broken (Chinchilla) - 9.9 oz
Otter (Black) - 11.3 oz

Moonshine's Venus litter is also four weeks.

Yapper - 12.9 oz
Green - 12 oz
Brown - 7.1 oz
Yellow - 11.5 oz

P3's Dubwool's litter is the last I did weight checks for.

Rosalita - 12 oz
Brown - 8.8 oz
Yellow - 8.6 oz

Caty Creek’s Gimic is looking good! He is 5 lbs 4 oz at 14 weeks. He may not be the biggest but that is definitely an improvement from some of my other Rex lines.

Litter Update!

Rex-
Bear Paw’s Blu Blu and Bear Paw’s Estel both lost their litters to the cold. Estel was an overachiever and gave me 12 babies as a first time mom so I fostered three out and they are thriving with Ursa Majors’s In Motion.

Ursa Major’s In Motion has 8 kits and they are all doing amazing. She has 4 brokens (lynx, chinchilla, Amber, and Castor). As well as two chinchillas, a lynx, a black otter, and an opal.

American Chinchlla-

Moonshine’s Venus originally has only 2 babies. But when I went out to check on them two days later she had had more babies. She had 8 babies 1 DOA. After a week I found her eating a babie so I fostered hers out to Dubwool.

P3’s Dubwool had 5 babies. One died after a day. Two weeks later she now has 3 of her kits and 4 of Venus’ babies. They are all growing very well.

Caty Creek’s Ivy was bred to Bella Rose Black Out, a Black Otter Rex Buck. She kindled early this morning with 8 babies. My hope for this litter is to improve the growth rate and size of my American chinchillas.

Caty Creek’s Willow is due today with a litter from Caty Creek’s Spartan.

Palominos-

Powder River’s Atalia and Leblanc’s Flower are both due today with litters from Leblanc’s JP1 “Pip”

Rabbits can't be fun all the time.

We talk a good bit about all the fun it is to have rabbits. Going to shows, winning legs, breeding cute babies. There are a ton of reasons to love raising rabbits. But like everything else, it can't all be fun.

I have not had a lot to post on my page lately. Nornally my posts consist of breedings, litter announcements, and rabbit evaluations. As some of you may have notived there has not been any of that on my page in a while. Almost 9 months to be exact. I have not had a litter make it past three days old in 9 months. This is a bit of a rant post, because this is not like one or two does this has been a combination of every rabbit in my barn.

I have bred 10 does, 3 different breeds, many different lines. Across 27 breedings in the last 9 months, none were successful. 22 of those breedings failed due to my does not taking the breeding. 4 were failed because my does miscarried the babies, three were at day 25. The only breeding I had that resulted in a litter actually being alive was a Trouble X Vader re-breeding. Those babies ended up getting chilled at three days old and passed away.

I will not lie to you. It has been very discouraging. But all I can do is keep trying. That's all I have for now. Hopefully, I will have a litter to announce in the near future.
