Lexington, I want to talk about one of my absolute favorite cultural events of the year: The Swahili Day Festival! 🌍✨
Watching this festival grow has been such a joy. It started out small, but it dug its roots deep into our city, and it is blooming beautifully. This year, the festival is moving to Gatton Park, and I can’t wait to see how the community utilizes and lights up that gorgeous space!
A lot of people miss that Swahili is the third largest growing language in Lexington, KY! While it doesn’t always get the mainstream recognition it deserves, events like Swahili Day change the narrative.
This festival creates a beautiful, much-needed space where:
•Members of the Swahili and broader African community can gather, celebrate, and feel at home.
•Neighbors from all over Lexington can come to learn, listen, and immerse themselves in the culture.
•We get to experience the incredible food, music, clothing, and energy that makes this community so rich!
