The Lord blessed us extra today with a swarm of honeybees! Swarming is a honeybee’s way of dividing a colony to make another colony when the population reaches a certain point and the queen no longer has anywhere to lay eggs. The swarm will often settle on a tree limb after it leaves the parent colony, like this one did, and send out scouts to find a new cavity to call home if they have not found one yet. That is when the beekeeper can take advantage of the situation and give them a cavity to populate like a beee hive! Swarms are most of the time extremely gentle and are not concerned about you and are not out to get you. If you see a swarm of bees or have one on your property, please don’t hesitate to give us a call, message, or text, and we will give them a home!

Discing produce patches!

We took advantage of the beautiful weather God gave us over the weekend and got our produce patches disced through a few times before this rain! We plow our usual produce land and new spots in the fall, and cut through it a week or two before we start planting to get the ground ready to plant! And it’s hard to beat the smell of freshly disced ground!

Yesterday we got the meat chickens out on the pasture, and they are enjoying the extra room and fresh grass and bugs to eat!

We raise our animals on grass because we believe it greatly improves the quality and taste of the finished product, and it’s how God made them! By raising our animals this way, their waste(manure) is dropped on the pastures and fields and is used by the grass as fertilizer, instead of being concentrated in a pile, which then has to be cleaned out periodically and spread.

What a beautiful few days the Lord has blessed us with, and we have taken advantage of them and got our first round of produce plants started for April planting! It went very quick with all the help we had as well! Thank you to everyone who helped, it is very much appreciated!

We are now taking names for our weekly produce baskets, which will hopefully begin in May! We have two different baskets as we did last year, one being the $15 basket of just produce, and the other being the $20 basket of produce and a dozen eggs. If you would like to receive a weekly produce basket this season, please message, call, or text us and we will get you on the list! More details to come soon!
