It’s pretty rare that I hatch a chick with abnormalities, and when it does happen, it’s often due to poor positioning during development in the egg.

On the rare occasion that a chick hatches with significant issues and is unlikely to thrive, I believe in making sure it doesn’t go to waste.

This may not sit well with everyone, but all of our animals need to eat, including Stella, our ball python! 🐍 Rather than purchasing feeder animals from an unknown source, I have the peace of mind of knowing exactly where her meal came from, how it was raised, and that it was healthy and ethically sourced.

To me, this is part of responsible animal husbandry. Not every aspect of raising animals is pretty or easy to talk about, but I believe in being practical, humane, and respectful of the life of every animal in our care. ❤️

I bet Ozzy is thrilled Sharon decided on a third brood of chicks for the season, especially in October 🤦🏼‍♀️ I think she has raised more chicks than she has laid eggs this year 🙃

They kept spilling and wasting feed so I installed the feed trough. So stinking cute 🥰 🥹
