Days four & five on Isle Royale! 💙
Our fourth day was also our last full day on Mott Island, so we started it with a hike around the 3-mile Mott Loop.
And WOW. 😍
The interior of the island was absolutely gorgeous, but once we made our way out toward the outer edge, the views opened up and got even better. Lake Superior has a way of making you stop whatever you’re doing and just stare for a while. 💙
After our hike, I made a big pot of chili and we had plans for one more evening adventure. We were going to take the bigger boat out to Chippewa Harbor!
Well…Isle Royale apparently had other plans. 😂
We made it into the channel before some technical difficulties with the boat meant turning around and heading right back to the dock.
So, Plan B.
Summer Shandies, Rummikub, 80s music and a whole lot of laughing back on Mott Island. 🍻😂
Not exactly the evening we had planned, but it ended up being a pretty great way to spend our last night.
Day five arrived a little sooner than expected when the Ranger surprised us by showing up early!
We quickly gathered everything, said our goodbyes to Auntie and Uncle, and climbed aboard for the five-hour ride back to Houghton.
And this time we scored seats right at the front of the boat! 🙌
Five hours later, we pulled back into Houghton just as the rain started to fall. Apparently Lake Superior was giving us a pretty clear signal that vacation was officially over. 😂
Five days of boat rides, hiking, fishing, history, wildlife, incredible scenery, family time, a few plans that didn’t quite go according to plan, and a whole lot of laughs.
And a HUGE thank you to my aunt and uncle for hosting us on Mott Island and making this whole experience possible. 💙 Getting to stay with you, see a little bit of what life is actually like out there, and experience Isle Royale in a way most visitors never get to was incredibly special. We loved every minute of it.
I’m really grateful we got to experience Isle Royale this way.
Until next time, Isle Royale. 💙
