Think of the cows heating system like a wood burning stove: when you start the fire it takes a few hours to warm up to peak heating. We always keep dry hay in front of our livestock 24 hours a day in the winter and feed grain right before dark or after dark in winter when it gets dark earlier. We want those grass puppies heating up over night when it is the coldest. Feeding grain or alfalfa ( high protein content foods) helps keep the animals warmer so this is why we do not feed these foods in summer.
Feeding in the evening also encourages morning calving or lambing etc.

This beautiful AHCA yellow heifer is still available. Her dam is very small around 42/43 at 6/7 years old and Montgomery is her sire. He is 41 so she should stay small.

With the horrid cold, we now have not one, not two but 3 house lambs. If you’re interested in a ram lamb we have a black and a white available now. 😩🤣
