She cooks, she cleans, she’s the chauffeur, and the caregiver. She deserves the world, but she’d be thrilled with just some fresh cut flowers.

I want to talk real quick about peony harvest stage.

I pick each peony when they reach “marshmallow stage” meaning they literally feel like a marshmallow when you squeeze the buds.

By doing this, you’ll get the full show. Over the course of a few days they’ll open to their full glory before your very eyes. If I wait until they are open, I risk sun damage and decreased vase life.

So when you see a bouquet of closed buds, don’t panic. The real beauty is yet to come and be enjoyed for many days!

Mother’s Day Preorders are open now on the webs1te!

It was a fun day hosting the Agricultural Operations students from State Technical College of Missouri!

These “kids” came as part of their Ag Marketing class. Of course we talked flower farming, wholesale and direct-to-consumer marketing, and the pros and cons to both.

But we also talked about pivoting, finding your own niche in a family farm, and understanding that expanding your operation doesn’t always equate to increasing your income.

I made sure we talked livestock and commodity crops too, since our farm is about as diverse as the kids in this class. 👩🏼‍🌾 🌼🐮🌽 👨🏻‍🌾

And, since we are all about hands-on learning around here, I had them walk the peony patch to check for “marshmallow stage” - the ideal phase for peony harvest.

They did pretty good and I had about a dozen peonies ready, and that’s after harvesting at sunrise today! Bet not many people can say they harvested peonies in their ag class. 😆

It’s official, our first peony of 2026 bloomed on a windy Friday - April 17th. I was sure it’d be a fuschia variety, but lo and behold, it was yellow! 💛

Of the 150+ guesses, only 7 picked the correct date. And the randomly selected winner was Edie Reichel! Thanks to everyone for playing along and keeping this flower farming thing FUN!

Lots more peonies are on the horizon and I’ll be sharing ways for you to get your hands on them soon!

Let’s play a game!

Y’all, I am so excited for peony season I could burst! To get you in the spirit too, let’s do a simple guessing game…

The photo on the left is this morning, April 14th, of the current status of our earliest blooming variety (minus the corals that all died in the arctic blast).

To enter: simply guess the date we’ll harvest the first peony bloom by commenting below! (One guess per person, please!)

Once I officially harvest, I’ll randomly select from the correct guesses to gift a peony bouquet to!

Let the guessing begin! 💃

Who’s ready for some freshly cut, locally grown flowers?!

Well you are in luck! We will be popping up in Loose Creek at as part of the Antiques and Boutiques event happening in Osage County on Saturday 9a-4p!

These bouquets will be filled with your Spring favorites, including ranunculus, Bells of Ireland, these ruffly snapdragons, and MORE!

If you can survive this work week, you will have earned yourself a pretty little something! 😍

I’m back! With Part 4 of How We’re Growing a Kitchen Garden.

So far we’ve:
🥕 Built and filled the raised beds
🥕 Laid out the grid for the square foot gardening method
🥕 Installed the irrigation lines

Now we are on Step 4: Planning and Planting. Which is arguably the best part, in my opinion!

I spent quite a bit of time researching what, when, and how much to plant. I found lots of great graphics on a simple google search and planned based on what we’d like to try this year.

So far we’ve planted the cold crops like spinach, onions, and herbs. But since we are nearly past the last Spring frost date, I’m planning to get our tomatoes and other warm season plants in the next week or so!

I can’t wait to see the beds full! It’s been fun teaching the kids about different plants. I made the garden “map” in Canva for them so they know what’s what while we wait for the fruits to show.

Raise your hand if you are ready for some fresh garden produce (whether you grow it yourself or get it from a friend 😉)! 🙋‍♀️
