When the lgd does her job! Extra treats for her!
Dealla tried to do a better job this year but with my sciatica then I was not able to keep up with the farm nearly as well and we lost a lot of chickens. She does the best she can and she took out several of these. I found this one back in the weeds and I'm surprised it is still in one piece. She will not bother a cat but she knows what she's supposed to take out.

And the one hatched earlier is still growing but it's sibling disappeared. I figure a black snake got it.

Summer is up and running and almost passed me by! Busy, busy season.
This year I decided not to hatch any peacock babies and at first, I was pretty good about collecting the eggs but then as it got more busy, I neglected that duty and now we have babies! I'm not sure how long they will survive but Dealla is doing a very good job of protecting them.
You cannot see the one in the first photo because it is in the deep grass. That is from Zazzle's pen. But Patriot gave two beautiful black shoulder babies and I have another hen sitting on another nest in there, as well.
And I want to say, and all these years that I have owned these birds, this is the first time I have allowed them to sit and hatch and raise their own.

The boys are in full display lately. This is Patriot and Zazzle showing off.
They can show off all they want. I'm not hatching any peafowl this year. The eggs will go to the dogs for added treats.

I love coming home and seeing my babies waiting on me. I was unlocking the gate and looked up to see Ewe R Trouble laying at the top of the driveway.

I always try to raise my peacock babies with Silkies. Usually the Silkies are very nice to peacock babies. I have this one female peacock that did not sell this year and that is fine by me. I will add her to one of my other pens. I have two pens of just girls. They quickly become pets and I find that I have a hard time selling them.
These Silkie girls are already laying but I have yet to put a rooster with them for breeding. I hope to hatch out more lavenders this year and that is probably the only thing that I will hatch this year at all. I'm not planning on hatching any peacocks.

Snow just makes everything more beautiful. We got a whopping 7 inches and with the temperatures going to stay so low then it may stick around for a while and that's okay with me. I will gladly tromp through the snow every day to take care of all my animals. Once it is gone, we will be back to winter mud until the spring bursts forth.

In case any of my readers on here do not know this, I love snow! And having one of our rare snow days yesterday was absolutely the highlight of my past year. This was great! I went out to check on my critters and everyone is doing well. I didn't much care for the 11° last night but we are dealing with that this morning and getting water to everyone.
