We brought in the first fruit at Rodrigue Molyneaux Winery yesterday --- Fiano!
This year's vintage of this Southern Italian varietal will be their first from the 3 rows that were planted in their estate vineyard. I'll be making it in the same fresh, crisp, stainless steel fermented style that I've been making the Pinot Blanc and Pinot Grigio in.
Fiano has more of a round mouth feel with lemon and melon characters. I see it as one of the more up-and-coming varietals in California. I have judged the California State Fair competition for several years, and a Fiano has won Best of Show once or twice during my time there. So, keep an eye out for this delicious and versatile varietal!
