Finished kidding with final kid count 4 Bucks, 2 does this year. Small group freshened. With focusing on training Lady B and the reality that there are only so many hours in a day, I'm downsizing for a number of reasons. I will be making soap this year, but I won't have the numbers I've kept in past years.

March 20th herd update;
Kidding kicked off not great; Tuesday first freshener Kioko had a large, single buck kid who did not survive birth.
Wednesday EZ gave birth totally unassisted, live and thriving twin doelings,
Just now (rough 12:45 AM Friday 3/20) EZ first freshening daughter Paparazzi needed assistance with another large, single buck kid. Both kid and Pippi are doing fine after a traumatic one leg back birth.
Still waiting on Kora (2nd freshening,) and Madeline (2F,) and our kidding will be done. All kids were sired by our Skybird Alpine buck Mandrake/Manny. No kids available this year.

A great "problem" to have, (mom Karen Budman Carl) and I plan to can some tomatoes this year, one way or another. What are your favorite varieties for fresh eating (off the vine or in tomatoes sandwiches?) and for canning; tomato sauce and tomato soup are my goals. Salsa if I can find a recipe I actually like.
I plan to start some Black Krim, Cherokee Purple and Black Cherokee for funsies, Rutger and Mountain Fresh on recommendation of my Aunt Helen ;) and some other heirloom options for paste and soup canning.
Not to mention cucumbers, summer squash and hopefully some fun pumpkins and luffa this year.

Way behind on posts but the Divas did trek to Harrisburg in January for the 2026 PA Farm Show. Kora and Kioko (Kira x Winsome) were in the dry yearling and 2 and under 3 classes, as well as best Doe bred by Exhibitor this year. Tough competition in the Alpine classes, but we enjoyed the mini vacation and seeing friends from across the state. Now we hunker down and wait for kids.
