Golden hour, a fresh calf on the ground, and one proud momma.

There is not much better than seeing a healthy calf up and moving around with the evening sun hitting just right. Moments like this are what make the long days worth it.

A new calf, another good momma doing her job, and another reason to be thankful to live this life.

Sometimes a good cow just needs a little help.

This cow’s teats got too large and swollen, which made it hard for this calf to get latched on and suck. We helped milk her out a little, got some pressure off, and helped the calf find the teat.

Big teats and udder issues can become more common as cows get older, especially after raising multiple calves. Over time, udder attachments can weaken, teats can stretch, and heavy milk production can make it harder for calves to nurse right away.

Once they get going, most pairs figure it out pretty quick, but this is likely going to be this cow’s last calf. She has been an excellent mother over the years and raised a lot of good calves for us, but sometimes you have to make decisions based on what is best for the cow herd long term.

For tonight though, momma is feeling better, calf got a full belly, and that is a win in our book.

X marks the spot here at the ranch!

Sun going down, cattle fed at the bunk, and another day at Red Flame Ranch.

Most people are headed home at this point, but this is usually when we are still out here making sure everything is fed and taken care of.

Looking up at a sky like this, let's us know we are right where we need to be.

We are proud to have our beef born, raised, and processed right here in the USA! This is a big step for consumers to know where their beef products are truly coming from. If you watch the clip, you might even notice some of our beef! 🥩 🐄

Starting in the new year, shoppers may notice changes to how meat products are labeled at the grocery store. New federal rules tighten the standards for when meat can carry a “Product of USA” label.
