Some people leave behind a legacy. Dolly Parton leaves behind a little bit of light.

For Martha & Julia, Dolly has always held a very special place in our hearts. There was something about her that felt bigger than music, movies, or even the extraordinary career she built. She had a way of making people feel seen.
She was wildly talented, fiercely hardworking, endlessly generous, genuinely funny, and somehow managed to be both larger than life and completely down to earth.
We loved her ability to laugh at herself. Her loyalty to where she came from. Her love of family and tradition. Her determination to open doors for other people. Her belief that success meant more when you used it to do some good.
And yes, we loved the hair. The rhinestones. The perfectly painted nails. The bigger-than-life personality.
But underneath all of it was a woman with an enormous heart.
Dolly reminded us that you never have to choose between being ambitious and being kind. That you can dream big and still remember where you came from. That generosity is a beautiful way to move through the world.
Those are the parts of Dolly we will carry with us, not as a lesson in how to be more like her, but as a reminder of the kind of people we hope to be.
And knowing Martha & Julia, there will probably always be a little extra butter, a little more sparkle, and absolutely no shortage of Dolly stories at our table.
