Have you noticed our milk tasting a little different lately?
We’ve had a handful of regulars mention a change in the flavor of our raw milk over the last two weeks—describing it as more “grassy” or “earthy,” and less neutral than usual.
Changes like this naturally bring up questions:
Does the safety of the milk change if the flavor does?
Why has it changed?
Will it go back to being more neutral?
Never hesitate to ask your producer questions!
If you’ve been wondering about this, here are some answers:
🥛 Raw milk is a living food.
Its flavor can change—both positively and negatively—depending on many factors.
Negative changes can come from things like poor cleaning practices, medication use, or animal sickness.
Positive changes happen throughout lactation, hormone cycles, seasonal shifts, and changes in feed or forage.
🧼 We take our sanitation practices very seriously and regularly test our milk to ensure our animals are healthy and our processes stay top-notch.
🦠 We’re proud to say we have never had a poor result on bacterial testing.
🌱 It’s spring!
Our cows aren’t confined to a barn or concrete—they’re out grazing fresh pasture and eating what the earth naturally provides. As their diet changes, so do the flavor, fat content, and even the color of the milk.
And that’s the goal—to produce food that reflects the seasons and the land it comes from!
