Another shout out to the LHS Class of 1968. Their final donation total to the 2025 BGB Golf Scramble was $760. That makes their total for the past five years $3200+. WOW!!!!

This year, when asking for donations, Carla & Joyce ask their Classmates for some favorite memories from their time as students at Loogootee Schools!!!

Below are a few of those responses.
Enjoy the memories!!!

Memories from Class of '68:
Nick Goodpaster, Sandra Christ Peters, Carla Leighty Hamilton, Joyce Witsman Ameen

•One of my favorite LHS memories included watching Junior Gee play basketball while we were still in elementary school. Like all young boys in Martin Co., I wanted to be Junior. I remember hearing Rolla Garrett talking to another man at the Burns City store and it was just like a scene out of the movie Hoosiers. Rolla told the man that after watching high school players for many years, Junior Gee was the best he had ever seen. Years later we heard Cletus use similar words when talking to Norman Dale about Jimmy Chitwood.
I too would have loved to see our girls compete in athletics against the girls from neighboring schools. But I think everyone knows that our girls would never forsake their beloved "standard issue" gym outfits for some silly team uniform. 😎 Best of luck to all of the teams competing in this year's Butcher2GeeBrett Hall of Fame Classic. And congratulations to the 2025 Scholarship winners.
Nick Goodpaster

•You want memories of LHS, well for me the Friday nights of Basketball-here in California, It was football. One of my other favorite memories is of Mrs. Dewey's history class! She really opened my eyes to how to better study for her test and quizzes. She was my favorite teacher.
Sandra Christ Peters

•My favorite memories revolved around the band department and Mr. Hamilton. What a great teacher he was! Also, for whatever reason, we enjoyed giving Mrs. Lucas more grief than she needed. But, she, too was a Great music instructor!
Carla Leighty Hamilton

•I loved rooting for our LHS teams. When I close my eyes I see our fabulous old gym and hear the roar and feel the shaking of the bleachers and the rafters. There were many sideline skirmishes. All four years our varsity teams were scrappers! One of my favorite memories was cheerleading with Karen Canada, Carla Leighty and JoDee Page for our freshmen boys (and a few 8th graders like Brian Canada) at a tournament when we were seniors. Their team soon joined with St. John's players and made history in the state finals. I see the even younger faces of those who would play in the championship game a short time later. Another favorite memory was riding on Garrison Walton's bus to Loogootee. He was so patient with us.
We were fortunate to have excellent teachers and staff.
Joyce Witsman Ameen

Once again, kudos to the LHS Class of 1968 for their continued support of the BGB Golf Classic and the BGB Scholarship!!!!

Here we go already, 6 teams signed up for next year's Butcher Gee Brett golf outing

07/28/2025

Well, what started as a 10 year project, just celebrated its 22nd year, Saturday, July 26th. The annual Butcher Gee Brett Hall of Fame Alumni Golf Classic had another successful year. It was a typical Indiana July day, hot and humid!!!! But no rain!!!!!

We will start by thanking our volunteers.
Jim Matthews and his sidekick, Ryan Templin, along with Jeff & Nancy Meyer, helped us get started on Friday by assisting in transporting all of our supplies and equipment from Loogootee to Country Oaks. Now the cooks. Mike Leighty has been cooking for us maybe 8-10 years now. This year he was assisted by his son Elijah, and Mike Englema. They kept the food and fixins coming. They always do a GREAT job!!! People LOVE all the burgers, dogs, turkey, and pork grillers that these fellas fix. Its all so very tasty.
The heavy lifters, keeping the coolers filled with drinks and ice, were Kathy Clements Burton and Wyatt Street. We even had to send Wyatt on a couple supply runs, once for more ice, once for more gatorade. These two were hustling like crazy trying to keep cold drinks in stock and they did incredible.
We also had a couple high school student volunteers. Kamila Wilson and Jacob Venters sat at hole #11 for us. Its our hole in one prize hole and we need a witness if someone hits a hole on one. They were gracious enough to stay for the entire day!!!! THANKS kids!!!
Shirley McAtee Jeffers, who has volunteered for ALL 22 events, and Amy Jones Cardinal were the masters of the Don Crane Memorial Putt off Contest. They persevered in the heat and got it taken care of as they always have. ⁰
Carlye Fisher helps with the registration and sponsor signs listing. Carlye has helped the last several years also!!!
Dennis Sult stayed and assisted us with break down and clean up. We may still be there if it weren't for him!!!!

Trey Miller and his crew aren't volunteers, but they take good care of us. Country Oaks is always in good shape for our onslaught. Any thing we need, Trey and crew take care of it!!!

We would be remiss if we didnt mention radio station WRZR along with Alan Williams and Greg Bateman. The last 4-5 years, they have done a live broadcast of our opening ceremonies when we induct our Honorees into the BGB Circle of Honor. We receive a good amount of feedback from those who hear us on the radio.

Tracy and I couldn't do this without support from our wives. They both make trips to our storage shed in Loogootee with Tracy and I to clean all of our equipment AND the storage space. They each do whatever is needed to make this event a success. They also just support us by letting us do this. Kelley normally does the registration and sponsor signs the morning of the outing, plus she keeps all the financial records. She always helps with the set up and break down also.

Last but not least would be our players and sponsors. The money for the scholarships wouldn't be available if it weren't for these people. We had 35 teams and 146 players this year. We have probably averaged these numbers the last several years. At the same time
we have 100+ hole sponsors. Again, this has been the norm the last several years.
There arent enough words to express our appreciation for our players and sponsors. They are simply THE BEST!!!

We cannot forget our golden song bird, Ms. Karoline Tedrow. Karoline has graced us with her presence by singing the National Anthem. Dont remember when she started, but we are sure glad she did!!!

Now, we are gonna take a deep breathe, catch up on our sleep, and then start planning for the 23rd annual BGB golf outing. Set your calendars for Saturday, July 25th, 2026. We already have a few teams signed up for the 2026 outing. Hope to see you in 2026!!! ⛳️🏌⛳️🏌‍♀️⛳️

This post needs to be updated to a total for 2025 of $700!!!! We looked back and in the last five years The Class of 1968 has donated $2450!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!

We need to do a special shout out. As everyone knows, the annual Butcher Gee Brett Sholarships, awarded to deserving graduating Seniors at Loogootee High School each year, is highly dependent on sponsor donations. Each year we raise money by hosting the annual Butcher Gee Brett Hall of Fame Alumni Golf Classic. A big part of this fund raiser/golf outing, would be our dedicated Sponsors donating to have a sign posted on the golf course the day of the outing. We have 100+ sponsors every year. Mostly the SAME Sponsors year after year. The $50,000+ in scholarships that have been awarded in the past 22 years would NOT BE possible without OUR SPONSORS!!!!

We are giving a special shout out this year to the Loogootee High School Class of 1968. Just a few years back, they started sponsoring a sign listing their Classmates that have gone before them.
This initiative, spearheaded by Carla Leighty Hamilton and Joyce Witsman Ameen, has grown each year. This year, the CLASS of 1968's donation totals $580.

WOW!!!! We are so thankful for the continued support of the Class of '68 AND ALL OF OUR SPONSORS!!!!

If you are interested in being a Hole Sponsor, you can reply to this post or contact Tracy Baker or Wayne Flick. You can high light a business, a person, or an event. We can accommodate any design you may want on your sign, as we have master sign designer/producer, Sandy Woods doing all of our signs.

One last THANK YOU to the greatest sponsors!!!!

Yesterday, Sunday, May 18th, we were privileged to attend the 2025 Loogootee High School Senior Scholarship Awards Program. This annual event allows those Seniors to be honored that receive varied types of academic scholarships. One of the scholarships announced annually at this program is the Butcher Gee Brett Scholarship. It was our honor to award the 2025 scholarships to three very deserving Seniors. This year's winners are Breanna Courter, Brianna Eckerle, and Wade Walton!!! This is the 22nd year for the BGB Scholarships to be presented and with it came a first!!! We had a tie between two applicants!!! Breanna Courter and Brianna Eckerle ended up with the same aggragate score after tallying all points awarded!!!! We would like to CONGRATULATE the 2025 winners of the BGB Scholarships, and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!!!!
