Well, what started as a 10 year project, just celebrated its 22nd year, Saturday, July 26th. The annual Butcher Gee Brett Hall of Fame Alumni Golf Classic had another successful year. It was a typical Indiana July day, hot and humid!!!! But no rain!!!!!
We will start by thanking our volunteers.
Jim Matthews and his sidekick, Ryan Templin, along with Jeff & Nancy Meyer, helped us get started on Friday by assisting in transporting all of our supplies and equipment from Loogootee to Country Oaks. Now the cooks. Mike Leighty has been cooking for us maybe 8-10 years now. This year he was assisted by his son Elijah, and Mike Englema. They kept the food and fixins coming. They always do a GREAT job!!! People LOVE all the burgers, dogs, turkey, and pork grillers that these fellas fix. Its all so very tasty.
The heavy lifters, keeping the coolers filled with drinks and ice, were Kathy Clements Burton and Wyatt Street. We even had to send Wyatt on a couple supply runs, once for more ice, once for more gatorade. These two were hustling like crazy trying to keep cold drinks in stock and they did incredible.
We also had a couple high school student volunteers. Kamila Wilson and Jacob Venters sat at hole #11 for us. Its our hole in one prize hole and we need a witness if someone hits a hole on one. They were gracious enough to stay for the entire day!!!! THANKS kids!!!
Shirley McAtee Jeffers, who has volunteered for ALL 22 events, and Amy Jones Cardinal were the masters of the Don Crane Memorial Putt off Contest. They persevered in the heat and got it taken care of as they always have. ⁰
Carlye Fisher helps with the registration and sponsor signs listing. Carlye has helped the last several years also!!!
Dennis Sult stayed and assisted us with break down and clean up. We may still be there if it weren't for him!!!!
Trey Miller and his crew aren't volunteers, but they take good care of us. Country Oaks is always in good shape for our onslaught. Any thing we need, Trey and crew take care of it!!!
We would be remiss if we didnt mention radio station WRZR along with Alan Williams and Greg Bateman. The last 4-5 years, they have done a live broadcast of our opening ceremonies when we induct our Honorees into the BGB Circle of Honor. We receive a good amount of feedback from those who hear us on the radio.
Tracy and I couldn't do this without support from our wives. They both make trips to our storage shed in Loogootee with Tracy and I to clean all of our equipment AND the storage space. They each do whatever is needed to make this event a success. They also just support us by letting us do this. Kelley normally does the registration and sponsor signs the morning of the outing, plus she keeps all the financial records. She always helps with the set up and break down also.
Last but not least would be our players and sponsors. The money for the scholarships wouldn't be available if it weren't for these people. We had 35 teams and 146 players this year. We have probably averaged these numbers the last several years. At the same time
we have 100+ hole sponsors. Again, this has been the norm the last several years.
There arent enough words to express our appreciation for our players and sponsors. They are simply THE BEST!!!
We cannot forget our golden song bird, Ms. Karoline Tedrow. Karoline has graced us with her presence by singing the National Anthem. Dont remember when she started, but we are sure glad she did!!!
Now, we are gonna take a deep breathe, catch up on our sleep, and then start planning for the 23rd annual BGB golf outing. Set your calendars for Saturday, July 25th, 2026. We already have a few teams signed up for the 2026 outing. Hope to see you in 2026!!! ⛳️🏌⛳️🏌♀️⛳️
