I was thinking about how much people like the Cat’s Pajamas (named after and based on a popular original sundae flavor from Mom & Pop's Cone Corner) and remembered that I used to make a Turtle Cake that was similar. Adding the fudge buttercream, the vanilla frosting and the chocolate drizzle really took this cake to the next level. 😍

My air went out at home and it has been the longest 12 hours of baking ever. 😆

I really need to figure out why it’s so hard for me to downsize my menu. 🥹

I know that it probably makes the most sense to offer 6 classics instead of 8 but instead of taking away I kind of want to add Wedding and Big Red to that list.

I can’t take off banana pudding because it’s a favorite for almost 11 years now and when the wafers start melting onto the buttercream with the banana cake being so moist and fluffy under that crunch… it’s just different! I can’t take off that one.

Birthday cake is perfect because everybody doesn’t like complex flavors and some just want a simple vanilla and that homemade confetti and vanilla buttercream tastes like a party.

Butter fudge feels like a hug from a family member and Thanksgiving dinner. The yellow cake is so buttery and delicious with that fudge icing.

Cocoa makes me empathize with Ms. Trunchbull. 😆 The chocolate on chocolate on chocolate just does it for me. (My personal favorite.)

Caramel tastes like I wear church hats and I’m married to a Deacon (both are true.) It has been a best seller for over 7 years now and I couldn’t imagine taking off that one either.

Honey Bun is perfect for people who love cinnamon and tastes like a Fall day (if that day were a buttery cinnamon roll with a thick, vanilla glaze).

The strawberry crunch has been my top seller for almost 11 years. The strawberry sponge is my favorite recipe to date and my strawberry cake lovers love that crumb blend. Definitely can’t take off that one.

The Superman earned its spot just by being vibrant, flavorful, sweet and sour and unique. It’s not just pretty. It’s also cherry, lemon and blue raspberry!

😞 They all are there for different reasons. I just can’t choose.

The first time I ever dressed up for Norma Jean’s was for Bakery Day at Chef Space 8 years ago. I was really nervous to be at an event with multiple bakers and just wanted a way to set myself apart. I had no idea that my love for cosplay would one day lead to one of the biggest factors that grew my business! My friend made a post saying that we should “look like what we’re selling” and it inspired me to make dressing up a regular thing. For the last 6 years I have tried to show up every time. Now I get to do two things I love for a living. 😁

With how crazy things have been lately one thing I have a huge appreciation for nowadays is time. So the fact that Summit Place Boutique Venue Space took time to put together this amazing shop warming gift for me and welcomed me to the neighborhood has warmed my heart in an amazing way. Thank you so much!! I love my basket and card and looking forward to October!!!

Good morning!!

I got my keys!!! 🥹

I saw a comment asking if I was “ever going to open up the inside” or just sell outside. I am definitely moving the cakes and operation inside eventually, but even when the inside is finished we’ll still be a walk up dessert bar with order and pick up windows. I could easily go inside and serve through the windows now, but I stand outside because the heat is crazy and I more than appreciate people willing to wait in line and show up. It’s my way of attempting to show a mutual respect. If you sweat, I sweat, and we’re in this together. Lol (Also I really enjoy meeting people and hugging my friends. 😆)

Today we order ceiling tiles, start cleaning and prepping to paint. After painting I have to finish my coving, install my sinks, order more tables and 2-4 ovens. Once I have ovens inside I’ll just have to move my mixers, load up my ingredient shelves and inventory, make sure my walk in fridge is up and running and purchase another refrigerator and freezer. It sounds like a lot (because it is) but I am so determined and ready to take on this challenge. I have an amazing family and support system behind me and God in my heart.
