Beeing2gether Expands Urban Beekeeping Efforts with New Farm Acquisition

This March, when the almond trees on Portland Avenue bloom, they’ll have more pollinators than ever—because we’re moving in! After eleven years, Lots of Food is passing on stewardship of a ⅓-acre urban farm to us at The Beeing2gether Foundation, providing us the space to grow our beekeeping, therapeutic, and sustainability efforts. This farm, already home to an almond and hazelnut orchard, berries, herbs, and native fruits like pawpaws and maypops, will now be buzzing with even more life as we expand our urban beekeeping education and climate-friendly farming practices.
To celebrate, we’re inviting you to our public Open House on Saturday, March 15, 11:00am at the farm at 1647 Portland Ave. Come check out our new home, meet the team, and learn more about what we have planned!
You may have seen us on TV, at local farmers' markets, or heard about our award-winning community work. We’re committed to environmental stewardship, education, mental health awareness, and being together all while working hard to protect and preserve honeybees.
What’s Next for the Farm?
While we’ll continue the farm’s tradition of education and sustainability, we’ve got big plans for the future:
● Apiary Tours & Workshops – Get hands-on with beekeeping and sustainable farming.
● Climate-Friendly Farming – With support from the Organic Association of Kentucky (OAK), we’ll restore native plants and improve soil health.
● Community Engagement – We’re building stronger partnerships to bring fresh food and ecological education to more people.
The Fight for Urban Agriculture Access
Amanda Fuller, founder of Lots of Food, acquired this land in 2013 through Louisville’s Landbank program. She transformed vacant lots into a thriving farm and has spent years advocating for urban growers. But getting access to land for urban farming remains a major challenge—including for us.
There are hundreds of vacant lots in Louisville that could be turned into community farms, yet policies make it difficult for growers to access them. Organizations like Food In Neighborhoods (FIN) and the Greater Louisville Food Council are working to change that, but we still need more support to ensure local farmers can get the land they need.
