We had a fun day on the Loudoun Spring Farm Tour, in spite of the 90+ temps. Our Pyrs, Rhea and Lugh, finally got enough adoration for a day.
We will be set up in the barn tomorrow, right next to the parking, in anticipation of possible t-storms tomorrow afternoon, so you can still check out the yarns, roving, and fleeces, as well as learn more about hand spinning, and, of course, explore the bank barn.

Arriving home with the new ram!
It’s been a long night. The ewe that was so stressed from the weight and position of her lambs that she hadn’t been able to stand for the last two days has had her lambs, with extensive human assistance, and was able to stand for a while after with some support.
So, she had triplets, who will be inside with us overnight since her milk has not yet let down. They have all had their first feeding of colostrum replacer and we are setting up a big baby pen for them for the night.
I think we will have pot pies for dinner tonight. I’m not thrilled about the 3am feeding, but you do what you got to do.
And Ametrine had twins around lunch time: white ram and black ewe. Only 3 ewes left to have their lambs.
So, Ajoite had twins (ram and ewe) yesterday evening and Cherokee had a single ewe lamb this morning. Only 4 ewes left to have their lambs.
Allegheny had a ewe lamb today about lunchtime.
Barred Owl had her first lamb this morning. Cute little black ewe lamb.
Starling had a lamb this afternoon.
Aegerine just had triplets! 2 ewes and a ram lamb. They got coats because the wind is so bad and it’s blowing through the barn. Brrrr.
Galena had twins yesterday evening.
Snowy Owl had a new ewe lamb this morning. It was the first time this season I had to help out and pull a lamb; one front leg was not presenting with the head and other front leg.
The lamb was large, so it took a bit of work to get it out, but all is well.
Chalcedony had twins this morning - ewe and ram.
Correction: this morning Philo had a little ram.
Denali had a single ram lamb this evening.
More lambs this morning. Ani has a black ram lamb with a white blaze, and Blanca has a black ram lamb and a tiny white ram lamb.
We went out to check on things after lunch today and were greeted by Savannah and her newly arrived twin ewe lambs.
Lugh was proudly keeping guard over the new family unit … from a safe distance.

We finally have our first lamb for this year. Cute not so little black and white ewe lamb - 14 lbs, 2 oz. Mom and lamb are doing fine.
Yesterday I cranked up the dye vat and voila: today I have 6 400 yd. Skeins of 2 ply fingering/sock yarn from our sheep in a lovely dark pine woods green. One skein is being donated to an auction for David from MDRF. The rest are for sale here at the farm. The photos really don’t do the color justice - the bottom of the skeins in the first photo comes closest.
I fired up the dye pot today and dyed 6 400 yd. skeins of 2-ply sock/fingering yarn from our sheeps' wool. Navy over-dyed onto a really (overly) intense goldenrod in the hope of getting a reasonably deep shade of forest green. I'll find out more about the exact shade tomorrow.
One or two skeins will be donated to a fundraising silent auction for a vendor/artisan (David) at MDRF who had a critical medical emergency this fall.

Switched out the ram to finish up breeding season, patched some fence at the top of the hill, and refilled the water out back. From the interest shown by the ram and the ewes, it looks like we will be having some March lambs.
Our 4H members are washing their project lambs in preparation for slick shearing for the fair coming up this week. Lots of very soggy sheep here.
Somebody is a water puppy. Somebody else is not so much.

The new hens are getting settled in. It will be good to have fresh eggs again.

So, we have bottle lambs - triplets. Mom’s mastitis made feeding from her impossible. Looks like I’m the surrogate mom.
We came out this morning to find Cascades proudly showing off her new twins - ram and ewe.
Fiona had twins this afternoon.
Molly just had twins. Talk about timing: we were feeding and she was bellying up to the feed trough and splat: lamb #1 - black ram. Greg got her in the barn and in a lambing pen just in time for the arrival of #2 - silver and black ewe.
Now that we’re getting more lambs outside, and they are getting used to the wide world and also getting slightly less intimidated by mom, we’re starting to see some lamb fun and games.
Oops, I’m falling behind. Denali had a single black ewe yesterday.
Hello Monday! New twins reporting for duty!
Galena presented us a white ewe lamb and a black ram lamb this morning.
Good news - Frode, the little special care bottle lamb, got reintroduced to his mom this afternoon, and it looks like they will be able to restore the bond, and she is still letting down milk and letting him nurse! They are bonding in a stall in the barn for now, and we will bring him in overnight again since his respiratory congestion still is not good, but he'll go out with mom again in the morning. We're hoping he will be able to stay out with mom full time then.
