Wondering where your dollar goes?
Sadly, one of the reasons equine rescues organizations are needed, is because people are unable or unwilling to keep up with the expenses of horse ownership. At ERL we commit to giving the best to each and every one of the animals we serve. Every dollar you donate goes directly to helping the horses.
$1 feeds one horse for one day
$5 gets a bag of shavings for the stall
$20 buys one bag of grain
$100 pays for a wellness exam on a new arrival
$500 pays the farrier costs for 3 months
$1500 covers our hay expense for 6 weeks
$2500 gives a home to our organization and the animals we serve by covering our monthly mortgage payment
Where would you like your dollar to go?

Just as there are abused dogs and cats, there are neglected, abused and unwanted horses in the greater Washington Metropolitan area. Unfortunately, facilities capable of caring for large animals are limited.
More than 25 years ago in 1989, while working with humane officers investigating auctions, I personally saw more than 300 cases of horse abuse and neglect in our area in just one year! Unfortunately, even today abuse and neglect continues.
At this and other auctions, old, sick and crippled horses in severe pain were loaded on slaughter trucks facing a long and painful journey or death by trampling when they could no longer stand.
The following month, two colts not even one year old died Christmas Eve 1989 from starvation and exposure as they stood outside with no food or shelter from the cold wind. Their only source of water was a frozen pond.
Since founding the ERL in April 1990, I have learned no equine is immune to being mistreated. ERL has provided shelter to everything from miniature mules to draft horses, from unborn foals to 40-year-old mares, from grade horses of unknown breeding to granddaughters of Secretariat and Northern Dancer.
All can be subject to abuse or neglect and all are welcome to ERL. Unfortunately, the farm shelter has limited capacity and often horses in need must be turned away.
We have come as far as we have because of the efforts of horse lovers in our local communities and our online networks, but we need your continued support to ensure the future operation of this shelter for abused equines, and to work toward improving our facility, enabling ERL to help eve more horses in the future.
In honor of Bitsy and others that could not be saved, I ask for your help. Let us work together to offer an end to the suffering for these innocent victims.
Every dollar makes a difference. Thank You!πππ

In honor of Trucker and Flower, I hope all will donate to this special rescue. The stories of the miracles they have made over the many years after that early rescue are so inspiring. Thank you Equine Rescue League for all your work. https://www.equinerescueleague.org/donate
I'm showing my support for the Equine Rescue League this November 30 for #GivingTuesday #GivingTuesday2021. Let's come together to support this horse rescue and raise awareness for animal cruelty nonprofits. Every dollar donated up to $4,000.00 will be matched by a generous donor.
With your help, you are helping them one horse at a time!

Thank you for your support! Girl Scouts Nation's Capital was able to donate to Equine Rescue League using 2021 cookie proceeds. They are an organization that prevents the neglect or abuse of any equine, offers educational programs to the community, and provides rehabilitation and adoption for those animals in need of our services.
My TC. He's still gorgeous at age 27. Adopted from ERL in December 2013. He has always had a movies star quality. Indeed, his breeding is tied to Hollywood. The breeder of TC's sire was Jack Valenti, who was once the head of the Motion Picture Association of America.
It's Mane Monday and we're here to get your week started on the right hoof!
Thanks to the β¨magicβ¨ (aka tireless work) of Verified Equine Rescue League, these girls have found a forever home.
Seized by animal control officers due to starvation and neglect, Dayz and Magic were adopted out in early December of last year. They are best friends/a bonded pair, and we are overjoyed that they get to have their Happily Ever After!

Transformation Tuesday!
Story submitted by Equine Rescue League.
Poppy's story is one of hope and a responsible owner making a very tough decision. When Poppy's caretaker became ill and knew she could no longer care for her, she asked for the Equine Rescue League (ERL) to help. Even though Poppy ended up at our shelter, she had never known abuse or neglect, like so many of the residents.
While waiting adoption at ERL, Poppy took part in the weekly tours and education programs offered here. She was fantastic at representing!
During the 2018 Clear the Shelters campaign, Robin LaFrankie of Equus Can Educate adopted Poppy, who quickly became a cherished member of the family, and an empowering "teacher" in Equus CAN Educate's equine assisted learning programs. Poppy is a powerful motivator in the activities that help children enhance their physical confidence, communication, and life skills at Equus CAN Educate. She even has a preschool "Mommy and Me program" along with a collection of eBooks that she has "contributed" to.
Phone number is a busy signal only and no responses to emails or donations. I would like to volunteer but I'm not getting any responses. Any suggestions?
Calling all horse lovers! As we approach the end of #ClearTheShelters month, there are still tons of animals in need of homes and care. Dayz and Magic are two lovely senior horses from the Equine Rescue League who are looking for families.
