What a lovely final supper of the year! The barn was full, we took all 3 tour wagons out, we had great questions and conversations and the weather was perfect.

Special thank you to Chef Erik Foxx of the for preparing a wonderful supper. It was fun chatting between the courses with you.

Big thanks to our partners:

It’s been a busy week. We harvested lambs, chickens and pigs this week and it had us on the road a good bit on top of usual wholesale deliveries and some extra school activities.

And now it’s Saturday which means we are open at our Route 9 Market 11-4pm today and tomorrow. We are open at our on farm store 8-8 pm.

We have fresh chickens at both stores again this weekend (one of our last weekends for fresh chickens this year).

We also FINALLY got our LADIES farm shirts in!!!! They will be ready for sale in our stores starting at 11 am at Route 9 Market and 1 pm at our on farm store.

Lastly we still have some space for our supper on Sunday. If you want to a table get in touch!

Thanks to all who visited us during Loudoun County Fall farm tour! Annie was here to hold down the farm and welcome everyone. We are grateful she came back this weekend to help us out!

Annie allowed Justin and I to get away for the weekend to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary at a Farmers to Bay farming conference on Port Isobel in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Service was quite spotty. The conference was put on by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to connect farmers in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and to watermen of the Bay. We spent a lot of time on the water discussing the history of oysters and crabbing, learning about the health of the Bay, discussing current policy, sharing perspectives on farming practices and impacts downstream, understanding bay pollution and changes to underwater grasses, learning about the rise of oyster farming, chatting about farm bill conservation programs and much more. We spent the weekend bunked up with farmers from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. New friends were made. We also toured Tangier Island and spent time understanding their way of life on the remote island. We were able to dredge oysters, throw crab pots and steam fresh crabs and even caught some seahorses and an Oyster Toad Fish!

Watermen and farmers aren’t that different and both are tied to our nation’s precious resources.

Big thank you to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for hosting us at your educational facility. We will continue responsible farming to Save the Bay and look forward to future programming that offers additional education on sustainable farming and Bay health.

After all these years… we finally have t-shirts!

I ordered them 3 months ago and we are still waiting for the women’s shirts (should be here next week), but we have mens shirts! And we finally have more hats.

So new to the stores this weekend are hats, shirts and lamb! We also have all chicken sausage back in stock.

Route 9 Market is open today 11-4 pm.
On farm store open 8-8 pm.

ROUTE 9 MARKET UPDATE:

October through the end of December we will operate under winter hours.

Friday: CLOSED
Saturday: 11-4 pm
Sunday: 11-4 pm

We are restocking all lamb today. This will include rib chops, loin chops, shank, leg of lamb, and ground lamb. We also have our mild Italian sausage as well as ourmerguez sausage available.

We have a handful of beef roasts and cuts available. We will be out of ground beef for a few more weeks.

We are very well stocked on pork and chicken.

One other product announcement that I need to make is regarding our salami and broths. The company that makes salami for us has decided to stop processing for small farms. We have been making salami with this company since 2018 and it’s a very important product to our farm financially. Unfortunately they will not process the last two batches that we had scheduled with them and therefore the batch that we have (soppressata) is the last salami that we will offer for the foreseeable future. This is a popular product for our wholesale business because it’s very difficult to find value added processing for cured product. We will also no longer be able to offer broths as that company has also stopped operating.

I know everyone is dealing with supply chain issues, while these changes that impact us are not a result of supply chain issues, we have certainly been dealing with supply chain issues in other areas of our business.

We will continue to try to find someone who can start making salami for us in the future, but this means that we will not have any holiday salami boxes to offer this year.

As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

It’s been raining for days! But the sun is coming and the pigs have been happy snuggling in all the round bales.

The babies make little nests in the bales and it’s quite funny to see them all pop out.

We had another small littler born this week which will complete our fall farrowing. If you want to see the cute piglets join us October 15-16 for Loudoun County fall farm tour! We will be open for visitors to tour the farm on their own. will be offering tastings and we will have information on our last farm supper of the year October 23!

Yesterday we met with NRCS and officially signed our contract to put the 75 acres that we bought last fall into their Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). We are essentially committing to grazing that land for the next 5 years in ways that are ecologically supportive and regenerative.

We will make it out to this part of the farm during our farm tour Sunday. It always promises beautiful views from the top of the hill. We have 10 seats left so make your reservations ❤️

It’s that time of the year again where we rent this expensive piece of equipment and drill King's Agriseeds, Inc. into the ground. This year we’re planting their Double Play for our steers so we should have a fall graze of oats and rye and a spring graze of triticale.

While we are almost full for this Sunday’s supper, we do still have tables available. Join us for a farm tour multicourse meal and local beverages. Email us at I [email protected] for reservations.

09/19/2022

It was 95 degrees, we were hours behind processing chickens and the kids were unusually cranky, but somehow was able to capture some amazing pictures and share some images of our daily lives. I got bit by the farming bug in college and life’s journey led me to the beautiful life. I was invited to be photographed and share our story for a few upcoming projects, one of them being a article featuring female farmers. I’ve carried my babies on my back for the last 5 years and I will always be indebted to Rebecca for providing me with these photos that capture our beautiful farm and family.

Farming is real. It’s raw. It’s hard. It’s tiring. It’s the most amazing work and fuels me with joy and passion. I didn’t grow up farming and feel lucky I had other experiences in life that allows me to pick this work with clarity.

I’ve given a lot physically, financially and emotionally to get where we are. I’ve struggled to maintain friendships because it’s challenging to get away from the farm and I hardly travel anymore. Truth is I don’t really like being away for long.

I appreciate being selected for this project ❤️ Here’s to those farming mama’s out there because it’s hard and demands a lot, but I can’t imagine not raising my babies under open skies and in open fields.

I also love empowering women but I always like to note how many men have mentored me along the way and I would not have production knowledge I now have without them. And that my number one supporter and partner in life is my husband, Justin, and he makes all of this work in ways that I can’t sum up in a few sentences. Love you J! Our farm has grown because we both give. I certainly do not do this alone. I have a tribe ❤️

Meet Cletus. He’s a Karakachan guardian dog we are borrowing from to watch over our broilers tractors. I haven’t been running electric nets around our chicken tractors this year and finally 2 raccoons found our chickens and have been tearing into our coops and treating themselves to a few chickens every night for the last few weeks. Justin and I tried to stay up and hunt them with Bulleit but we are too old and need to get our sleep 👵🏻 so luckily we were able to bring in Cletus to help us out and he’s been doing his job!

We harvested another 140 chickens yesterday which means we will have fresh chickens available all weekend at both stores.

We are also going to make a guest appearance at the farmers market tomorrow selling fresh chickens and frozen cuts of leg/thighs, breasts, wings, sausage and organ meat/feet. If you want to pre-order amy chicken shoot us a message so we know what to pack! We will be bringing chicken eggs too while Dapple Farm is not at the market tomorrow.

Route 9 Market open 1-5 pm today and 11-5 pm Saturday & Sunday.

On farm store open 8-8 pm daily.

Come see us a and get our pasture-raised nongmo chicken for your Labor Day weekend! ❤️

We were so happy to be a part of this farm dinner with Long Stone Farm! Chef Justus and his wife Amanda have so much fun making a working date night out of it.
We can not be more grateful to Long Stone Farm for hosting a Sunday Supper benefiting LTR this past Sunday. It was an amazing event! As people arrived, there was appetizers and drinks by the fire pit, followed by a wonderful hay wagon tour of the farm. The tour was so very educational and it was fun to see all the different farm animals – especially the pigs and piglets! We then returned to the barn for a fantastic multi course meal prepared by Between the Hills Catering using Long Stone Farm meats and other locally sourced food, blue grass music and an evening spending time with old friends and new. We can not thank Casey and Justin Wisch and their family and friends enough for hosting this rustic but elegant event for us. It was a truly memorable evening. Thank you!

We have big news! In addition to a variety of meat from Long Stone Farm we are now offering organic pasture raised beef from Rosmann Family Farms - Farm Sweet Farm! Swing by the Farm Stand and pick some up today from 4-7 or Saturday from 9-1.

Convenience doesn't mean quality of life for many of the meat products that land on grocery store shelves. Willowsford Farm meat partners are well known for prioritizing their animals well being. Thank you, Long Stone Farm and Rosmann Family Farms - Farm Sweet Farm for giving your animals the chance to smell fresh air, watch the sunrise, and for giving them the chance to frolic in fields. Where your meat comes from matters. When you buy meat from Willowsford Farm you can shop with confidence knowing your Farm team believes in the farmers who supply our Farm Stand and CSA with chicken, beef and pork.

June. Not quite spring, not quite summer. When temperatures run high, it’s all too easy to grab a ripe watermelon or a raft of red tomatoes from the grocery store. It’s Virginia. It’s hot. Might as well be summer.

We get it. The temptation is strong, but hold off if you can. There’s an entire oddball bounty at the end of spring just waiting to be savored.

Our featured weekly CSA recipe is all about working with the tastes of June. Green tomatoes, red butter lettuce, garlic scapes, and voluminous nasturtiums all come into focus this time of year.

Layered with Long Stone Farm Canadian bacon, cornmeal-battered unripe tomatoes, and a garlic-scape aioli, our Fried Green Tomato Stack is pure Americana.

Take a little time to explore the late spring table. It only lasts a moment and there’s plenty to enjoy.

Check out our story for a how-to guide on frying green tomatoes. We use garbanzo bean flour in our the video, but for a super crispy fry-up (like the photo above) cornmeal can’t be beat.

Both locations have a couple of the last peonies of the season, plus I have a few left in my cooler for any preorders! Many of the arrangements this weekend feature daisies, a few sunflowers, the very last of the peonies and the last of the ranunculus. I’ll be a busy bee 🐝 this weekend working on next seasons flowers, so for preorders it is best to give me at least a days notice. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

If you haven’t been to Long Stone Farm to sample their products, you are truly missing out. Family farming and dedication at it’s best. ❤️🚜
We had the pleasure of working with Loudoun County Economic Development this past quarter on identifying new market opportunities for farmers and value-add producers in the County. In the process, we met remarkable people and operations like Long Stone Farm. Casey and Justin run a 240 acre beef, pork, and chicken operation with sustainable regenerative ag practices in addition to supporting the entire local community through their farm store and Sunday Suppers. They buy from other makers and feature local talent on their property. This is what an interconnected, economically-vibrant community looks like!

👉 Action Items:
• check out next Sunday Supper each month until October!
• visit and their Loudoun Made, Loudoun Grown program to support
• 🇺🇸 this summer when you’re grilling, find a farmer to buy direct instead of commodity beef
Visit Long Stone Farm this weekend to learn about their grass-based livestock operation! This popular location features a self-guided walking tour to see the pigs, cattle, chicken tractors, and pastures.
