What a difference a few hours can make. The vineyard was decimated by sustained temps in the 20s Tuesday morning, wiping out shoots and buds that had broken several weeks early. The vines will survive, but most of this year’s fruit is gone. I’ll be nurturing the vines and what fruit there is, along with the community of fruit growers throughout the state (and beyond). Drink Virginia wine, and if you know a local winemaker or grower- give them a hug! It’s going to be a tough season for many.
