Happy May Day! To honor International Worker’s Day, LLAMA thanks the immigrants, anarchists, socialists, and communists who fought for the rights many of us take for granted today (and are currently being stripped away).

And thank you to all who continue to fight for justice in our homes, communities, schools, and workplaces. Our struggles are connected and we must stand united. An injury to one is an injury to all.

Housing Crisis in : We Need Community Solutions

LLAMA will be joining the Merrimack Valley Project () and other community members and groups at the upcoming Housing Action Assembly in Lowell next Wednesday, April 29th. This gathering is building off of MPV’s community listening session last month and together we will identify the core issues we want to focus on, building people power across neighborhoods and communities, and taking our first steps towards acting together.

Lowell is becoming increasingly unaffordable for the majority of the people who live here while new developments get sweetheart tax deals from the city government to build apartments with sky-high rents that will continue to crowd out the rest of us. We deserve a say in how our city is developed, and there’s more of us than there are of them!

We need community driven development and housing solutions that meet the needs of Lowell residents, especially those who are unhoused and housing insecure. Development should be focused on improving the living conditions for current Lowell residents without displacement or raised costs. The community should be the priority in any development plan.
