🌼 More Than Just Pretty Flowers 🌼

One of the most important crops on our farm isn't a vegetable at all. It's flowers.

Marigolds, zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, echinacea, and other flowering plants play a vital role in supporting pollinators like bees, butterflies, moths, and even hummingbirds. Without these hardworking visitors, many of the fruits and vegetables we enjoy would produce fewer blooms, fewer fruits, and lower yields.

Marigolds are one of my favorites because they do double duty. Not only do they provide nectar for pollinators, but they can also help attract beneficial insects that prey on common garden pests. Their bright blooms add beauty to the garden while supporting a healthier growing environment.

By planting a variety of flowers throughout the garden, we're creating a continuous food source for pollinators from spring through fall. Every bee that visits a flower today helps support tomorrow's harvest.

A healthy garden isn't just about what we grow. It's about creating an ecosystem where plants, insects, animals, and people all work together.
So if you're planning next year's garden, leave a little room for the flowers. Your pollinators will thank you, and your vegetables will too. 🐝🦋🌻

📸 Bonus tip: Marigolds make excellent companion plants around tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, and beans, adding both color and pollinator activity right where it's needed most. 🌼🐝

Busy season is officially here at Pi Farms, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. 🌱🐐🐷🐇

The garden is soaking up every bit of this rain and growing like crazy. Baby goats are bouncing around the pasture, rabbits are everywhere, and we have baby Meishans available with even more little piglets on the way soon.

There’s something special about this season… muddy boots, full feed buckets, tiny baby noises, and watching everything come alive all at once. It’s exhausting, beautiful, chaotic, and honestly, our favorite time of year.

As we prepare for our next chapter and our move to Korea, we’re soaking up every second of this last year here on the farm. Taking photos, making memories, and trying to hold onto all the little moments we know we’ll miss someday. 💚

This time of year always pulls me back into the garden in the best way. Everything is starting to take off again, and while it’s not perfect, it’s growing, and that’s enough. I’ve found that spending time out here does more than just put food on the table. It gives me a place to slow down, reset, and work through the stress that tends to build up during busy seasons of life. There’s something about being outside, hands in the dirt, that brings a sense of calm you don’t really get anywhere else.

The garden has become a big part of how I stay grounded, and it continues to shape the way I think about nutrition, health, and overall well-being. It’s a reminder that growth takes time, consistency matters, and not everything needs to be rushed.

I’m really looking forward to sharing how everything comes along this season and bringing you along for the process as it unfolds.

Today is World Health Day, and for me, health has taken on a whole new meaning over the years. It’s not just about workouts or numbers on a scale. Health is how we live, what we grow and eat, and how we care for ourselves and others.

As we prepare for our next chapter overseas, that mission isn’t changing. If anything, it’s growing. I’m leaning even more into food, nutrition, and education, and continuing to build something that truly supports real health from the ground up. Because at the end of the day, health isn’t something you chase. It’s something you build, one choice at a time.

Big news for our family… we just found out our next duty station 🇰🇷

We’re headed to South Korea, to Camp Humphreys.

This one feels big. Exciting, a little overwhelming, and honestly… a whole new chapter for us.

We’ll be trading in wide open farm days for something very different. No goats in the backyard, no big garden rows (at least for now), and a lot more city life than we’re used to. But with that comes something really special too… the chance to experience a new culture, new food, new places, and a part of the world we’ve never lived in before.

From what we’re learning, it’s an amazing duty station with a strong community, great schools, and so many opportunities to travel and explore. Seoul is close by, and there’s so much history, beauty, and life to take in.

This move also feels like the right time for a shift in what we share here. Over the next few years, you’ll start to see our page transition more into food and nutrition, something that has been growing behind the scenes for a while now. Living in a place like Korea, with its deep food culture, feels like the perfect opportunity to lean into that.

And personally, I’ll be using this season to take the next step in my education and begin working toward my doctorate. It’s something I’ve been building toward, and this move feels like the right time to go all in. This move feels like one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

We’re soaking it all in right now… planning, preparing, and trying to wrap our heads around what life will look like on the other side of the world.

Grateful for this journey, even when it stretches us.

South Korea… we’ll see you soon 💛
