We have a sign!
We’ve been wanting a sign the Farm Stand for a few years, but this was the year we made it happen. Mark worked on it over the last couple days, cutting out the plywood, priming it, painting it, carefully transferring the lettering, then painting the letters. We love the turquoise color that matches the window frames and harkens back to the days when the barn was Mark’s woodworking shop.
Before it was his shop, the barn was a horse stable and corral. When he moved his shop from the Beach Store outbuilding to the farm, he cleaned up the stable and painted all the single-pane window frames with turquoise paint. The barn was his woodworking shop for 20 years. In 2021 we moved his shop to the garage, had our barn renovated into our wash/pack area and floral studio and all the single-pane windows were saved and repurposed on the farm stand. Our barn is pretty small, but it has provided so much for us over the years.

We have just a few more small harvests before we say goodbye to narcissus for the year. I’ve always loved these flowers, maybe more than tulips. Narcissus are often wonderfully fragrant, endlessly varied in form, and are, for me, the most anticipated sign of early spring. Pictured here are varieties like Prosecco, Gay Kebo, Romantic Paradise, Mammoth Mountain, Geranium, Sir Winston Churchill, and Blushing Lady.
The last video is a sweet bridal bouquet I loved making, which showcases all the very early blooms from the farm.

All of these flowers started as tiny seeds planted carefully into plug trays, tended to until they were seedlings ready to plant out into the garden where they grew for months, cared for, and eventually cut for enjoyment. Our bulk flower buckets glow with the love that we put into growing them. These are available for preorder now. If you’d like some buckets, order soon to reserve your date. Fill bud vases for your dining tables, or get creative and make your own arrangements or bouquets.

Spring has arrived very early on Lummi Island this year. The clematis and daffodils are blooming and the tulips are not far behind. I even just heard the first few frog songs from the marsh.
We’ve been having some beautiful sunny days, which has allowed us time to get out and finish our winter pruning, mow down cover crops and tarp those beds, prep beds and plant seeds before the upcoming rain.
In less than a month the farm stand will reopen on April 1st!

Flash back to this gorgeous June wedding in 2023, perfectly timed for us to design with all the incredible late spring blooms like peonies, ranunculus and sweet peas. It was such a joyful and beautiful wedding to be a part of.

The farm at sunrise. It’s December 30th and we finally had our first hard frost at the farm. The sunrise this morning was brilliant and clear. The air is cold and calm with no wind to interrupt the bird chatter. We’re winding down around here and getting close our annual winter break for the farm stand. We’ll be open through January 4th and then we’ll begin clearing the farm stand on the 5th. The farm stand will reopened April 1st.

Spring blooms are on their way and our Flower Club is open for preorders!
We’ve tucked all the bulbs, corms, and baby plants into the garden for the season, tarped some key spots for planting in early spring, and now we wait and keep a close eye on all of them. This year we got a jump start on a lot of overwintering flowers so we’re really looking forward to seeing those progress in the spring. As the days get shorter, colder, and darker, I’m comforted by the thought that in about four months I’ll be harvesting the first fragrant daffodils for our spring flower club. I hope you’ll consider joining the flower filled club! 💛
