This cake was made for someone very special.

My oldest turned 10 today. He’s the boy who made me a mom, and now he’s in double digits.

Ever since we moved to Huntsville, his birthday cakes have come from a wonderful local bakery that never misses on design, flavor, or service. So a couple of months ago, he surprised me by asking if I would make his cake this year. He wanted my sourdough chocolate cake.

Of all the cakes he could have chosen, he picked the one made in our kitchen, by his mama. I don’t think he knows how much that meant to me.

He’s smart, brave, and kind, and his heart is so thoughtful. I’m grateful every day that I get to be his mom.

Happy 10th birthday, sweet boy. 💙

I’m teaching a holiday crochet garland workshop at Lemon & Lavender, and spots are open.
You’ll make a chunky, cozy garland in a simple pattern, with super bulky yarn that works up fast. It finishes around 14 to 16 feet long, so you’ll leave with something ready to hang across a mantel, a staircase, or a doorway before the holidays arrive.
It’s a relaxed, hands-on evening of making something handmade for your home, and a good one to do with a friend.

The first test batch of cookies earlier this week went better than I hoped. My testers were genuinely excited about them, and I’m so encouraged that all the research and learning is paying off.
So today we’re trying another recipe. I’m converting my core recipes one at a time to test them with gluten free flour and Freeda.

Freeda’s first test bake and there are only two cookies left on the tray.
I’m not gluten free myself, so I can’t compare these to other gluten free cookies. But next to my regular wheat cookies, these are delicious. I ate one as a test and went back for more.
Made with gluten free flour and my gluten free sourdough starter, baked after a full kitchen reset. Still testing, so tell me what you’d like to see next.

Today’s the day. Freeda is finally getting tested.
I started the morning by resetting my whole kitchen. The oven is on a deep clean, the counters are scrubbed, the mixer is wiped down, and one bowl is set aside just for this.
I’m not saying what I’m making yet. Stay tuned to see how it turns out. And wish me luck!! 😂
