Tommy and Jake 🩵🩵
We had a scare last week with Jake. He wasn't acting like himself - he would walk around not strutting, he wouldn't gobble, he stopped eating and he would stay on top of the chicken coop for half the day...all of which is very abnormal for him. I noticed right away and watched him for a day and a half and it kept getting worse. I was very afraid it was blackhead since they are with our chickens but after lots of googling I came to the conclusion it was sour crop and confirmed it after rubbing his crop and this awful smell coming from his mouth 🤢🤮 with more googling I discovered I had limited options.. taking him to the vet and having them clean out his crop.. vet visits aren't at the top of our list since we have over 100 animals we care for and they literally cost a arm and a leg, I do all of their vaccines & care myself. So last resort! Then I came across a post where someone had great success with feeding their turkeys monistat 2x a day for 7 days. I can confirm it did indeed work! I went with a full tube 2x a day for 7 days and by day 2 I could see improvements. 100% recommend if you suspect a sour crop! If it ever arises in my chickens I will be trying this then too.
