In Far Out West Texas you plant pumpkins in mid August for October/November harvest this depends on the variety you are growing. Pumpkins can take 90-140 days from seed to harvest.
I have never grown a real pumpkin patch because of the amount of water it would require.
But Now, here in the woods we have the water.
I tranplanted 22 starts early July, I have 17 plants growing, 7 varieties including one Jack o lantern size, sugar pie, white, and multi color striped.
I love to bake for Chris Seaton during Thanksgiving, it is a holiday we celebrate with our Tribe every year.
Music, laughs, stories, and so much food.
I cook for 2 days in preparation for the day, when not in the Garden I am most happy in the kitchen cooking for the people I care about.
Food is Love

One rock at A time.
The new terraced beds are getting planted today! We got another 1/4 inch of rain last night. The 1st two beds up top and the 3rd n 4th beds ALL have germinated.
The soil is really warm to have sprouted in 2 days time. These beds get about 11 hours of sun, perfect for fall production as the sun starts to dip lower in the horizon heading toward winter.
Speaking of sprouting.
Next Tuesday at 6pm here at Three Peaks Farm is the next gardening workshop.

These Days the Garden provides.
Purple mizuna, mint, cilantro, dill, basil, parsley, cucumbers, radishes, and microgreens.
Canned tuna, well cause New Mexico is a long way to the ocean but I still need to up my protein intake. Organic pumpkin seeds and my balsmaic vinegrette dressing with tumeric n Mary Barton's garlic is lunch today.
No the zinnia is not edible, but they started to Bloom Today and I just love them so I picked one. Sally Bug they are starting to Bloom gurl.

Fall is on the Wind this morning here in the garden.
Hauling more rocks, moving more soil and prepping more greens beds today.
Collard greens, swiss chard, kales, spinach, arugula, mizuna, and mixed lettuces are getting seeded in tomorrow.
I was given a beautiful cabbage from my neighbor, so I am making some kimchi today as well.
This Saturday August 22 The Magdelena Library is hosting an Ice Cream Social.
Ice cream making contest, dj, bouncy houses, n cotton candy it is time to say adios to summer.

Three Peaks Farm is sponsoring a FREE raffle of a Farm Basket.
A Flower boquet
Art
Fresh herbs, perennial plants, veggie starts, and some chimichurri sauce will be in the basket.

I picked these micros up at The Socorro Farmers Market last Saturday.
They are amazing!!! A husband and wife team, their farm will be providing for the New Mexico State Fair.
Maybe 1 day Three Peaks Farm will too, I am working today on registering the farm with

I am uppotting greens this morning for the Grand Opening of the farm stand Sept. 1st here at Three Peaks Farm up in Hop Canyon.
Plant starts will be available for your Fall garden there will be
Arugula, purple pachoi, brussel sprouts, spinach, kale, broccoli, romaine lettuce, peas, chamomile and other herbs.
Fall gardens are my favorite with root veggies, lots and lots of greens, herbs, and flowers.
There are fewer bugs as the night time temps drop and you need alot less water to keep plants thriving because the days are shorter and cooler.
Do you have a favorite fall veggie or flower?
Mine are Salad turnips and Bachelor buttons
Not many true blue flowers like the Blue cornflower also known as Bachelor button, beautiful in a boquet with red sweet pea vines.
Hakurei Japanese salad turnips are white fleshed, super juicy mild flavor great for eating raw or roasted with other roots. The greens are so yummy with scrambled eggs or you can make a pesto, eat them raw in salad or add to your favorite soup.

The green beans are flowering, that means it is pea Time.
Planted around 35 feet of sugar snap peas this morning.
They are a cool season crop and are sweetened with a light frost.
The countdown to Equinox has begun.

Good morning from Three Peaks Farm.
We are growing a variety of edible flowers here at the farm.
These variegated nasturtiums have a strong peppery flavor similar to Arugula, one of My favorite bitter greens I grow.
Ever part of this plant is edible including the immature green seed pods.
We also have Borage, which has multiple functions here in the garden beds.
Its hairy stem is an aphid trap super helpful for the most common garden pest.
It is a companion plant for strawberries, improving flavor of the fruit and yield.
And the delicate pale purple star shaped flowers taste like cucumber, a lovely addition to salads.
Calendula tops my list because it grows so well in all types of climate and soil conditions.
Stunning cut flowers, so many gorgeous colors.
Great for making salve it helps with inflammation, and also makes a very mild tea when added to roasted Dandelion roots during the winter.
