Does anyone want to do some bee work in trade for a NUC in the spring? I hurt my back and need to do the following. Take out apivar strips, feed, and inspect about 22 hives. I would like to do this anytime from now till Sunday. I may be mowing in a few so leave a message and I will call back. Also, I will be there to instruct. I just need someone with a good back. Thanks
Message or call me 850-851-8038.

I just treated my hives with Apivar strips. I have six strips left. They are available right now for $2.50 apiece. Generally, you need two strips to treat a single-level hive or 4 strips to treat a double-level hive. Price is not negotiable as I have marked them down by almost half. Call or message me at 850-851-8038.

Friday's bee meeting when good. We got into a couple hives, and Aaron won a 3 LB slab on wax for a door prize.

05/03/2022

So, I inspected my NUCs today and due to weather I do not believe they will be ready till end of May. Sorry but I can not control the weather. Everyday it rains sets them back three days as the trees and bushes take a couple days to recover nectar and pollen.

04/28/2022

Bee meeting next Friday the 6th at 6PM. I plan to get into a few hives and talk about moving NUCs into a 10 or 8-frame box. Please bring a Hat and veil, if you have one, or a suit. I have a couple extra pocket hats and veils but not many. Any questions pls ask. Thank you for your support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so spring is here, and people are thinking about bees. How many people in the Mammoth Spring and surrounding area would be interested in a Mammoth Spring Apiary Bee club? I would need at least 10 people wanting to join to start it. So, pass this along and reply yes is wanting to attend. Meeting will be on a SAT. Not sure which one yet suggestions are welcome. Also, location will be my Apiary in Mammoth Spring.

03/27/2022

I will be splitting hives on 30 march and again on about 19-20 APR. If you want to help, send me a message and you are welcome to come help. You must have your own bee suit or hat and veil. This is not a class, but learning will happen. This is not a paid thing. It is voluntary. Doing about 15 splits on the 30th and about 30 on the 19th of APR.

03/26/2022

Inspected the hives today. They are growing well but just started really growing about two weeks ago. This three stacker actually only had bees in the top box, so ai had to put it on the bottom to force them to grow into the other boxes.

Closed my bee yard for the winter today. Added pollen patties to every hive and a Clauss Dome. I also put out sugar water for them in the 5 gal buckets. These domes are great for air circulation inside your hive and you can take off the top to peck in without disrupting the bees or exposing them to the weather. As you can see the bees are already taking to the pollen patties I put on then and you can see them through the dome. They do not even have a care that you are there. My pollen patty recipe is under videos. It is simple 6 cups bee pollen substitute or real pollen add 1 qrt sugar water. I also put in my mineral oils mix. That recipe is also on the video.

Clauss Hive Dome

So the cold weather just jumped here as you can feel. We have a couple warm days coming up, so if you have not checked your bees for winter stores do it on the next warm day. If need add a dry pollen substitute patty to the hive to help get them through winter. Your bees will need at least one medium honey supper to get through winter plus some in the brood chamber. If unsure just give them a patty or two. I use the clauss Dome so I can look and peak into my hives to check patties in the winter. Gordon Clauss invented this dome and I love it. Here it goes again. I tried this about two weeks ago and only got 4 people. PLS respond if interested.

I am considering starting a Bee club here in Mammoth Spring, AR. We would meet monthly to discuss beekeeping topics. Right now we would meet at my house until we find a better spot. Right now there would be no dues to be a member, but as we grow that could change. I am thinking meeting on either FRI or SAT night around 6PM till 7PM. I would be the president and may be looking for a secretary, if needed. Please let me know what you think and suggested meeting date and times. I will not be able to accommodate all but will try my best. If I get enough people interested I will start it and post all INFO on this FB page. ( I am thinking we need at least 10 people to start a club.)Thank you for your support and I look forward to meeting with you all.

Hey everyone. been a while since I posted or anyone has asked a question. Winter is coming here soon. Look and see where your bees are at for winter stores. If you have not treated for mites, you need to do so now!!!! ( My recommendation put in apivar strips) here in north AR goldenrod is starting to bloom so if you have a good amount around you you should not have to feed. The only way to know this is to get into your bees, now and then again in a week. If they are bringing in surplus honey you will see liquid not capped. If you turn the frame on it's side it will probably splash out if you shake it. (It may not though) Just an old trick to test and see if the bees are bringing in nectar. Also your bees will need at least one full supper to make it through winter and you still may need to add some pollen patties if we have a bad winter. I have recommended to run two deeps and one supper for the bees. If you have this and the supper is full and there is plenty of pollen in the deeps and you have treated for mites your bees should be ok. Also you will need to look at reducing the entrance here in a month or so when the temps start dropping below 50 during the day.

Any question post to my page or sent me a message. Good luck

I am treating my hives today with Apivar strips. I will have a few left over if anyone wants to buy some. They are 2 for $6. You are supposed to put 1 strip for every 5 frames in your brood chamber. No honey suppers allowed while treating with these strips. Call if you want some 850-851-8038

07/26/2021

I had a beekeeper come to the house today. I saw you on the door cam but after you left. If you get this and have a question. You can post the question here or call me.850-851-8038.

07/14/2021

If you have not checked your hives for food stores and to determine if you should feed I would recommend doing that ASAP. If you got a NUC from me I recommend feeding all year till they have 2 deep boxes pulled out, then give them a super. Have fun and good luck. Post questions to my page, so all can see and learn.

06/18/2021

Hope everyone is having a great year with their bees and learning a lot. We are starting or may even be in a dearth were you are located right now. What this means for your bees is they may not have enough Nectar and or pollen to sustain themselves. What this means for you is you may have to feed sugar water at a 50/50 mix water to sugar. This can be done several ways. You may also need to feed either dry pollen substitute or pollen patties. I preferer to make my own patties to feed and I sit out dry pollen. Only way to know this is by inspecting your hives for pollen and nectar. Your queen may slow down her egg laying during this time. Any questions please post them and i will answer the best I can. Thank you and god bless America. See my You Tube page for pollen patty recipe. Also post and video recommendations you may have.

06/09/2021

Between rain breaks try to check your hives for adequate food stores. With all this rain you may see blooms but rain will wash away pollen and nectar and it takes a few days for the plants to build up more. If it rains every 2-3 days the bees can not forage much. Stronger hives will do better as they have more bees to gather quicker than a weaker or smaller hives. However stronger or more populated hives can also burn through food stores faster. You will find there is a balance and in time will lean to help bees manage that balance. Hope this may have helped

Several people have asked about books. Five Rivers Bee Club in Hardy, AR has posted several books in PDF format for download on their website, link below, and has made several other suggestions. I would suggest either joining the club or making a donation if you download a book or three, as one of those books retails for $50 and the other from $10-30. Hope you all enjoy the reading. If you read more books than me call me for a free gift. I have read 12 beekeeping books so far and read two magazines a month.

Our bees are not building combs flat on the frame or in a rainbow shape??
I hope I’m doing all of this right! My dad found a very tiny swarm on a tree branch and caught them for me. (Maybe 3 cups worth of bees?) After further inspection a few days after installing them I discovered there was no queen. So I took a brood frame from the very productive nuc I bought a few weeks ago and gave it to my swarm. I think they are making a queen?? Yes?
We have comb coming up through the top handle. Do you know why they would do this and what we should do? Just knock it down? Thanks!
I just finished sitting out some sugar diabetes in a jar for the “babees”. I absolutely love my nuc I bought from Mammoth Spring Apiary. They are my first bees and I would never dream that bees could be so docile. I’ve had them for a little over a week now and they are thriving! If they don’t slow down I will definitely be needing to add another box on top very soon.
Hi! I caught a swarm on Thursday evening. (Very small swarm) I dumped them in the brood box Friday and didn’t see the queen. I was in a hurry so I didn’t take my time a really look very well. I went back out this afternoon and looked for her. Neither my husband or myself could find her. They had comb the size of the palm of my hand on the frame. Some of it was filled with black goop and a couple cells with what appeared to be normal looking honey. Do you sell mates queens?
