August 1 2021…Nearing harvest! This is the month! MBV has lots to do, Veraison is the magical moment when those hard, green grapes transform into plump, juicy clusters- followed by Brix & Ph testing by Doug & good communication to the many wineries for deliveries! Let the fun begin! In 2021 MBV’s Grandson Calvin(now 20 months)salute’s America 🇺🇸 with a new flag pole from his great grandparents-the Laurent’s .(Thx Nana/Papa Haddock for teaching him how to place his hand on his heart when he sees a flag!)The whole family was blessed with a new grandson Finn this year, the youngest future grape lover and they couldn’t be more proud! Stay tuned….

What a grape idea! A rolling play pin for Calvin while we fried fish with our parents!!! Social distancing in our large shed. Followed by Doug crushing grapes for our legal limit of wine we give away to our friends -pruning, picking, bottling- you name it! We don’t know what the future holds but we are preparing for anything!!

All friends agree, it’s been a long couple months! So happy our wineries can open up and share their wines!
Lucy guarded the entrance to make sure no one came during spraying at MBV today. Keeping everyone safe, even the squirrels didn’t have a chance to get down from their trees 🐿 Glad it stopped raining to get the much needed spray on the vines. Doug has been busy!!

New addition to the vineyard sign thanks to our kind neighbor John Cottingham!!! Our very own Mockingbird Mascot. Thank you John! The sign was made by our good friend Tim Horchem last year! Thank you Tim! Pruning is complete, no bud break just yet! Doug is working on the apples. Stay safe everyone!

MBV can’t thank Doug’s friends enough for coming out to prune during this confirmed crisis! Tim, Roger and Denny- We have over 3000 vines, lots of hand labor to do! After pruning you can see how Doug discards the clippings on these cold days! We burn them to keep the neighborhood warm, Lol, Jk!
Lucy is our Vineyard Dog- she keeps visitors to a minimum as we want to honor our social distancing with Covid-19 virus. We as an agriculture establishment will deliver to our customers in late summer. Good grapes=great wine!
Most importantly!!!! PLEASE reach out to your local wineries that have establishments- they have been temporarily shut down - they have pickups, deliveries etc. They want to keep providing you wine! Thank you! Kim Abbott Doug Abbott

Now this is a freeze! - 6 degrees is the reason pruning doesn’t start early at MBV. Doug grows hardy varieties but winter damage is something real from year to year, especially hard on the vineyard plot by Springlake Rd. Even the birds are still and quiet this morning!

MBV is hot and heavy in the grape harvest but managed to focus on the holiday and enjoyed a partial day away from it all! Tomorrow and the weeks ahead ~a different story, thank you all for the dedication to your jobs! Work hard play harder, when you can 🙂 !!

We are SO excited for this Saturday! We have 5 spots left if you want to pick a few grapes have lunch with adult beverages and play a fun “get your ducks in a row” game ! Easy picking fun, full of prize winning opportunities. Picking grapes= each person taking a bottle of wine home for enjoyment later no matter if you pick a ‘lucky duck!’ Or not. This event is free for our friends and family as a token of our appreciation for supporting MBV. Private message me if interested!

Grapes are going through Veraison, getting closer to harvest! Taking advantage of another spray for this beautiful evening! Harvest party 2019 is in the planning stages. Bud break, flowering apple blossoms(140+ trees), plus a Syngenta fungicide application complete for protection on the new foliage with all this rain! I hear MBV managed to sow over 1000 zinnia seeds today also ...... just because they love a butterfly magnet, something the mockingbirds can watch over and sing about!!! May the 4th be with them!
