Go learn. Bring back ideas. We’ll help cover the trip.

Seven Rivers members may be eligible for travel funds to attend conferences and producer-led watershed group events across Wisconsin and surrounding states.

If there’s an event that could help you learn more about cover crops, reduced tillage, grazing, manure management, soil health, or conservation practices that fit your farm, let us know.

These funds are meant to help members connect with other farmers, see what’s working in the field, and bring practical ideas back to Manitowoc County.

Interested? Message us or contact a Seven Rivers board member. [email protected]

Want to track what’s changing below the surface?

Seven Rivers Soil Cooperative has funds available for comprehensive soil health testing for members — a $60+ value per test.

Soil health testing is a great way to track progress over time, especially as you add practices like cover crops, no-till, reduced tillage, or low-disturbance manure injection.

With crops coming off the field, now is a good time to collect samples before nutrient application.

A few details:

🌱 Best suited for fields up to 30 acres
🌱 Members collect their own samples
🌱 A sampling guide is available
🌱 Manitowoc County SWCD has sample bags and a soil probe available to borrow
🌱 SWCD will take care of sending samples in

Interested in testing a field this fall? Reach out to Seven Rivers or Manitowoc County SWCD to get started. [email protected]

🌱❗Want to see what other farmers are trying? We can help you get there.

Seven Rivers Soil Cooperative has travel funds available to help members attend conferences, workshops, and other Wisconsin producer-led group events.

These events are a great way to hear directly from other farmers, compare what’s working, ask questions, and bring new ideas back to your own operation.

Interested in attending an upcoming soil health, conservation, grazing, manure management, or producer-led event?

Reach out to Seven Rivers to learn more about available travel support. [email protected]

Because sometimes the best ideas come from getting off the farm for a day and talking with someone who’s already tried it.

Thinking About LDMI? Start with a Cover Crop.
NRCS recently released updated guidance for Low Disturbance Manure Injection (LDMI). Some local farms interested in the practice have found that meeting the criteria can be challenging. One of the best places to start is also one of the simplest: get a cover crop growing.

Cover crops give you more options for integrating manure into your system while maintaining soil cover and minimizing disturbance. If LDMI is something you may want to pursue, this fall’s cover crop can help set you up for success.

Seven Rivers is also working with NRCS and the Between the Lakes Demonstration Farm Network on an October LDMI field day at Libertyland Farms. We’ll look at the equipment, toolbar adjustments and application rates, and talk about what it takes to make the practice work in real field conditions.
Watch for details soon.

Farmers needed to help with a National Soil Health Survey! SHAPE: Probing Our Country's Soil Health is a nationwide USDA project aimed at creating a free and user-friendly tool for farmers to benchmark the soil health of their fields. https://youtu.be/1WfiNG8LUAY?si=g0XXWKVR4d3WlSNK - To participate in the project, growers must sign up for a 1-hour Zoom Meeting https://calendly.com/probing-our-countrys-soil-health/shape-survey?month=2026-09 where a facilitator will lead them through a management survey for 2-3 fields. Growers will receive a $150 check as compensation for their time on the virtual meeting. They must then grant access to their fields for hand-probe soil sampling from 2-3 sites from each field. Fields must be 10 acres or more. Growers will receive a free personalized soil health report of their fields, valued at about $1,200 per field, and a copy of a book called "Probing Our Country's Soil Health."
