When the girls hear me open the screen door, they all come running!

I love being able to just throw my eggs shells out into the yard for them. Extra calcium...means stronger egg shells!

Some people dry them out, grind them and then mix them in the feed. This would help prevent them getting the idea of eating their freshly laid eggs.

So far, no issue for us 😊

We enjoyed dyeing eggs from Joyce's Flock!! 🥰 they took on the color better than I imagined! We chose the lighter brown eggs we had on hand.

An egg bloom (or cuticle) is a natural, protective coating applied by a hen to the shell during laying that seals its pores - it is what makes fresh eggs shelf stable.

The bloom is what gives some of our brown eggs that pink tint 😊 - you can see where i applied water to the shell to see how heavy the bloom is!!

Good Night sweet babies!

We are elated that our week old chicks have accepted the newest little ones (only a few days old). Everyone was very active today and seems to be thriving!

Digby is thoroughly inspecting our newest babies 🐣...he's not totally convinced they're not car snacks (wrong kind of Chicken Nuggets Digby!)
