America’s cattle producers have spent generations building consumer confidence in the safety, quality and integrity of U.S. beef. That trust is invaluable, and it is supported by a food safety system that is recognized as the gold standard.
Protecting consumer confidence and the integrity of our food safety system must remain a priority.

More competition. Less unnecessary regulation. Strong food safety standards.

NCBA supports creating more opportunities for small, mid-size and regional beef processors—and eliminating unnecessary regulations that make it harder for those businesses to compete.

But weakening federal meat inspection and food safety standards is not the answer.

America’s cattle producers have spent generations earning consumer confidence in the safety and quality of U.S. beef. That trust is invaluable, and so is the gold standard food safety system that helps sustain it. Neither should be jeopardized for a short-term political solution.

If Washington wants to help cattle producers, the focus should be on:
✅ Reducing legitimate regulatory burdens
✅ Lowering fuel and fertilizer costs
✅ Protecting the U.S. cattle herd from foreign animal disease
✅ Expanding opportunities for small, mid-size and regional processors

American farmers and ranchers know how to produce safe, high-quality beef.

Washington should stop trying to manage the cattle business and let the market work.

"The Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association is disappointed and frustrated by the President’s recent comments regarding beef imports. We do not support government intervention that disrupts the marketplace or creates additional uncertainty for cattle producers and consumers.

Strong consumer demand is driving today’s beef market. Americans continue to choose beef because they value the quality, safety and nutrition of the product our cattle producers work hard to provide.

The last thing cattle producers need right now is additional uncertainty created by government action. Beef demand and sales remain resilient, even as consumers face higher prices across the grocery store and adjust their household budgets and spending.

While beef prices have received significant attention, consumers are seeing price increases across a wide range of products. The focus should not be placed solely on beef when producers and consumers are experiencing broader economic pressures.

Minnesota cattle producers are ready to rebuild their herds and meet strong consumer demand, but they need a level playing field, open markets and predictable market conditions. Government intervention that creates further uncertainty only makes that job more difficult."

The Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association is disappointed with the President’s comments on beef imports. We do not support the government intervening in the market this way.

No cow-calf producer in America is asking for increased imports. Undercutting American farmers and ranchers with products from foreign competitors does nothing to create market confidence or encourage rebuilding the herd.

For the second time in less than 12 months, the Trump Administration is intervening in markets in an attempt to artificially lower beef prices. Current retail prices are high because of strong consumer demand for the high-quality beef we produce.

Incentivizing additional foreign imports undermines America’s producers at a critical time as they make decisions about rebuilding numbers for next year. U.S. farmers and ranchers need stability. Unlike spur-of –the-moment trading decisions made based on White House social media posts, the decisions and investments ranchers make in their herds are made YEARS in advance, not days or weeks.

The Trump Administration's repeated whiplash on trade policy and beef imports has real impacts on cattle producers in rural America. USDA created and promoted a stronger “Product of the USA” label, only to abandon it and decide that MCOOL was the only option. Today’s announcement is not about helping producers. It’s not about putting their finger on the scale for one cattle industry group or another. It is 100% about the 74 days between now and the midterm elections.

Merck Animal Health hosted a fun guessing contest at Doug Loyson’s feedyard during the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association Summer Tour in July. Tour attendees tried to estimate the average pen weight for a chance to win a fire pit. The cattle went out the next day after the tour and weighed 1,595 pounds. Duane Munsterteiger came closest with his guess of 1,593 pounds! Congratulations, Duane!

Still reminiscing on another great Farmfest! 🥩🤠

Did you know that in just three days, we go through more than 2,000 pounds of beef and serve more than 5,000 meals at the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association beef booth?!

A huge THANK YOU to American Foods Group for donating all of the beef that makes it possible! We are incredibly grateful for your continued support.

Our Farmfest beef booth is one of our largest fundraisers of the year, and it wouldn’t happen without the incredible volunteers who make it all possible.

And now, we’re looking for the next generation of volunteers to step up! Our mighty Farmfest Committee is nearing retirement, and we need some new faces to help carry on this long-standing tradition. 🙌

Last week, SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler and I stopped by the Minnesota Cattlemen's FarmFest booth to discuss the priorities of our cattle producers, like expanding SBA capital access for local operations.

Minnesota’s beef industry is essential to our ag economy, and we will keep working to ensure our cattlemen have the tools and support they need to thrive!
