Governor Tim Walz today issued an executive order providing immediate relief to Minnesota’s agricultural, timber, and fuel-transport industries to respond to record high diesel prices around the state and nation. It authorizes vehicles transporting agricultural and forest products to exceed regular weight limits by up to 10 percent on state and local highways.

The order also provides temporary hours-of-service relief for motor carriers and drivers transporting fuel products, including diesel, fuel oil, gasoline, ethanol, and biodiesel, as part of emergency relief efforts.

Free su***de prevention workshops are happening next week in Albert Lea, Fergus Falls and Cloquet, with additional sessions planned in Willmar, Buffalo, Ada, Grand Rapids, Marshall, Thief River Falls, Austin and Crookston later this fall.

Farmers, family members, friends, neighbors, agricultural professionals and others who live or work in rural communities are encouraged to attend. You don’t need to be a mental health professional to participate.

New funding is available to Minnesota livestock producers to help prevent wolf attacks. A total of $25,000 funded by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, will be awarded by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture through the Wolf-Livestock Conflict Prevention Grants.

Minnesota livestock producers: Protect your herds and your livelihood! 🐺💪 New funding is now available through our Wolf Livestock Conflict Prevention Grant. Apply by Dec. 18 for a chance to get reimbursed up to 80% of approved costs for prevention measures.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has provided additional funding to supplement our Wolf Compensation Depredation Fund.

🐄 The AGRI Livestock Investment Grant helps farmers and ranchers improve, update, and modernize livestock infrastructure and equipment.

🦃 The AGRI Protecting Livestock from Avian Influenza Grant helps producers invest in equipment that reduces the risk of avian influenza transmission.

🚨 Attention graduate students 🚨

The W.D. Farr Scholarship, given by the National Cattlemen's Foundation, awards two (2) $15,000 scholarships to graduate students committed to advancing the beef industry.

Eligible students should apply online and will need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, description of goals and experience, a short essay, state of belief in the industry, a review of their research and three (3) letters of recommendation.

Applications are due by Oct. 9, 2026, and will be recognized at CattleCon 2027 in Nashville!

MSCA President Jake Thompson joined fellow agricultural leaders at the Minnesota State Fair on Sunday for a roundtable discussion with USDA Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agriculture Affairs Luke Lindberg.

Following the discussion, Under Secretary Lindberg and his family joined Jake and his daughters at the cattle barns to continue the conversation and learn more about Minnesota’s cattle industry firsthand.
