Moving the emus was… an adventure 😂 From absolutely refusing to leave the chicken run, to immediately trying to get back in once we finally got them out. They jump, kick, and apparently p**p on you when they’re upset. And yes, I have the bruised and battered toe to prove it! 😂🦶💩

Thankful for my husband for helping me get them moved… although, to be fair, the emus were his idea in the first place. 😂😂

Hopefully they’re happy in their new, much bigger space and eventually decide it’s home. The funniest part is that they’re actually super friendly otherwise. Just apparently VERY opinionated about where they want to live! 🪶💕

My son helped me bag up rabbit manure today, and when I told him he could keep the money from the bags he filled himself, he VERY enthusiastically agreed. 😂🐰💩💰

He then proceeded to shovel and fill three bags all by himself. Apparently, the path to entrepreneurship is paved with rabbit p**p. 😂

But honestly, I love that he was so excited to work for his own money. I want him to learn that money comes from work, and that if there’s something he wants, he can save up and buy it with money he earned himself.

Today: three bags of manure.
Tomorrow: who knows… maybe a tiny homestead empire. 😂

Not a bad lesson for a little guy. ❤️

The best part of working from home? When the workday ends, the homestead begins.

This evening, after logging off from my day job, I headed out to the garden to harvest fresh summer veggies before moving into the kitchen. Rabbit fat became homemade tallow, that tallow became fresh tortillas, and dinner came together with shredded rabbit tacos topped with homemade goat milk queso fresco.

It's a lot of work, but there's something incredibly rewarding about sitting down to a meal where nearly every ingredient came from our own homestead.

This is the life we're building, one evening at a time. 🌿🐇🌮🧀

I don't know what's more exciting these days... fresh eggs or seeing two glowing eyes in the dark. 😂🐈

One of our barn cats was lounging on a ledge during tonight's barn check. We rarely see them during the day, so every nighttime sighting feels like proof they're actually on the payroll.

Now if they'd just start accepting payment in mice instead of compliments. 🌙

It’s not always farm chores around here! 🌵⛰️

Sometimes we trade the dirt boots for hiking shoes and head up Mount Lemmon for a little adventure. The cooler mountain air, the views, and a chance to explore are the perfect reminder to slow down and enjoy this beautiful place we call home.

It was extra special because my little guy hiked the whole 2 miles! I am so proud of him for keeping up, pushing through, and soaking in the adventure. Watching him grow up with a love for the outdoors is one of my favorite parts of this life. ❤️

And of course, Koda came along for the adventure too — our little hiking buddy who was just as happy to be out exploring. 🐾

Homesteading is a lot of work, but it’s also about making memories, exploring new places, and enjoying every corner of this desert we love. 🌵

We officially hit 100+ followers!! 🎉🌵🐓

When we started sharing our little corner of the desert, we never expected so many people to follow along with our daily adventures (and occasional animal-induced chaos 😂).

Between goats finding ways to be extra dramatic, chickens doing their chicken things, pigs growing faster than we can believe, gardens being planted, and constantly learning something new, there is never a dull moment around here. Some days we have a plan… and some days the animals remind us who’s really in charge.

100 followers may not sound huge to everyone, but for our little farmstead, it means a lot. Every person here is part of this journey, and we’re so grateful you’re along for the ride.

Thank you to everyone who has followed along, supported our farm, bought eggs and treats, joined a class, visited the animals, shared our posts, or just enjoys watching our crazy little corner of the desert come to life. 🌵

Here’s to more projects, more animals, more food grown and raised here at home, and plenty more “what did we get ourselves into?” moments. 😂

These two piggies are being raised for meat, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve a good life.

Meet our Red Wattle and Berkshire pigs. They have room to run, root, wallow, explore, and simply be pigs. They get fresh food, clean water, enrichment, scratches, and daily care. In another 3–4 months they'll likely weigh 250–300 pounds and will become food for our family.

For us, raising meat animals comes with responsibility. We believe that if an animal gives its life to feed us, it's our job to make every day of that life as comfortable, enriching, and stress-free as possible. A good ending starts with a good life.

I know not everyone shares the same views on raising animals for meat, and that's okay. This is how we choose to honor the animals in our care—with gratitude, respect, and the best life we can give them.
