Why We Don't Grow Fake Trees

Here's something worth knowing before you buy a tree this year: real Christmas trees are a renewable crop. For every tree a farmer harvests, they plant one to three new seedlings the following spring, that's just how the industry works, ours included. While they're growing, real trees are quietly doing their job, absorbing carbon dioxide and putting out fresh oxygen, the whole time. Artificial trees are a different story: mostly plastic and metal, mostly manufactured overseas, and the average family only uses one for six to nine years before it heads to a landfill, where it stays for a very long time. We grow ours. We don't ship ours.

I Wanted Goats. He Wanted a Farm.

When we bought this land in 2017, I had a very clear vision: a quiet house looking out over a hay field, a few Goats, some chickens, a goat or two, and a lot of peace. My husband had a different vision entirely. Curtis had wanted to be a farmer his whole life, and he was not about to waste 30 acres on "peaceful." It took us a year of talking it through before we landed on Christmas trees, partly because of our tree cutting tradition, partly because Curtis doesn't do anything halfway. I still got my Goats. I also got 3,000 trees I didn't see coming.

You don't need a shelf full of wax, wicks, and fragrance oils you'll use exactly once to make a candle you're actually proud of.

You need someone to show you how, one time, with the good stuff already measured out.

That's the whole idea behind our candle workshop. You come, you make 2 candles, you take them home the same morning. Comment 2candles and I'll send you the details.
