Got into a few hives today. The colonies had plenty of stored syrup, low mite counts, and a respectable amount of brood. However, they appear to be consuming nearly all the pollen they’re bringing in. Time to break out the pollen patties sitting at the bottom of my freezer!

Add this to my credentials! 75 minutes of grueling study followed by a comprehensive exam…. This kind of course is not required for honey, but it is required for cottage foods. I’m not sure where the line is between honey and cottage foods when you start making flavored creamed honeys and infused honey, so just better be safe….

Starting next weekend, I should have time to make more beeswax candles. Candles will be made to order until we run out of wax, so there will be a short turnaround time. Let me know if you would like one.

Beehives must be heavy for winter. To supplement natural fall forage, I feed them a mix of 2 parts sucrose to 1 part water (2:1 syrup) Note - The sugar syrup does NOT mix with the honey that the bees make in the spring!
