Since the end of the growing season, we’ve been experimenting with low intensity propagation. Eight Chicago Fig cuttings were dipped in growth hormone, stuck in Pro-mix, watered thoroughly, and tucked into a large tote in a dark spot in the basement to set roots. Another bunch of Chicago Fig cuttings is sitting in willow water in the garage to see what will happen…
Rosemary cuttings were dipped in growth hormone, stuck in Pro-mix, watered, and placed in our grow tent.
As of this weekend, all 18 Rosemary cuttings rooted and have been potted up from 3” pots to 5” pots.
Six of eight Figs rooted and have set some new growth. They have all been moved to the grow tent as well.
All in all, a successful experiment so far!
And as a bonus, I got my first garden manicure of 2026😁

Good morning and Happy Monday!
With another below-freezing start to the day, Maybelle is being gracious enough to share her molasses water with Hazel💕 I don’t expect Maybelle sharing to be a regular thing, but we all appreciate it when it happens😁

Good morning from the farm!
We got just enough snow overnight to make it look like a postcard here💖❄️🤩
The cats are fed, the dogs are having a morning romp in their field, and now I’m off to the barn to refresh molasses water and hay for Maybelle and the goats. 🥶

Good morning and Happy Hump Day from the farm💖. It’s a peaceful and frosty start to the day here, with all the critters still tucked into their coops and barn stalls.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

I think somebody was feeling a little broody yesterday😁
There was extra morning chatter in the coop and two of the girls didn’t come out with the rest. A little investigating showed one hen on a few eggs ( not all hers) and being very vocal and trilling. The other missing hen was still roosting but “talking” with our broody girl and keeping an eye on her.
Or maybe it’s just a slow and sleepy morning for these two 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good morning and Happy Friday!!
With the girls back to laying, we are back to egg hunting😁. Our girls are pastured/ fully free range during the day and they definitely have some favorite laying spots that are not the coop. One is the old dog kennels. I get it- it’s dark, safe and as a bonus, requires some pretty good twisting/ stretching for a human to retrieve the eggs🤪
Thanks for the farm yoga routine, ladies!

Organizing pictures has got me in a Throwback Thursday state of mind☺️
In the fall of 2007, we made a trip to Michigan to pick up our first NAID puppy from Majestic View Kennels. Kaya joined our family as a fiercely independent, sassy and sweet puppy and taught us all how amazing these dogs are. Escape artist, soul reader, herder of people and livestock, periodic chaos agent, hiking and roadtrip companion, snuggle buddy, nursemaid/ nanny to toddlers, companion to terminal patients, distillery hostess- she did it all. She was the best ambassador for the breed I could imagine and now life wouldn’t feel complete without them in our life.
Share a pic and/ or a story of one of your fur babies!

The Wolf Moon was so incredibly bright Saturday night/ Sunday morning. Most of the time, the unplanned, “wee hours” dog walk is rough and I’d rather be asleep…but sometimes those crazy early walks pay off with spectacular scenery💖

Meal- prep Monday is back! With school starting back up, I have less time at home and having easy meals ready to go becomes a higher priority.
Yesterday, I tested out a new-to-us recipe: Seco de chancho (Ecuadorian Dry Pork Stew). It was really easy to make and mostly hands off, aside from the initial chopping veggies and searing pork. The outcome- absolutely delicious comfort food! The meat was fall off the bone tender, the “gravy” full of layers of flavor and perfect over a baked potato for dinner. I think I found a new favorite for our household. There were no leftovers 😁
We used country style pork ribs from The Farmhouse Market LLC and tomatoes, peppers, onions and garlic from our garden, so most of the dish is also from within a few miles of our farm💕
12/10⭐️s! Will definitely make again😁
